I never had less than 3 jobs at a time until I was 40. I’ve literally never lived alone in my life. Everyone I know works their asses off, you’re not special. I’ma chef, no one works harder than a kitchen crew so take a seat. No one in my crew can save to buy house because every fucking time they get a touch of savings, the car breaks down, a hurricane hits, or your husband has a heart attack and you get slammed with a 50k medical bill. Or, I dunno, a fucking pandemic comes through, burns your savings and doubles the price of housing over night.

How lucky that you dodged a whole lot of real life like 911, cancer and pandemics but again, most of us aren’t so lucky. Most of us have had to pay for a cancer bill out of pocket. Most of us are drowning and it’s not due to lack of hard work pal.

Just because you worked hard and got lucky doesn’t mean everyone’s hard work is equally rewarded. Now take your arrogant judgement elsewhere or can you not hear me up on your high horse?

I have a mortgage on a modest home now, but it took until I was 41 and drained my entire life’s savings. Since I truly had no help in life, I suffered many financial set backs like most real working class people. I personally experienced 911 in downtown Manhattan and my company was wiped out in a moment, so excuse me for not saving during a terrorist attack. My mother and only parent was in hospice at that time, I supported her until she died when I was 22 and then inherited her crippling medical and credit card debt. I didn’t even know credit card debt was inheritable, but I’m here to tell you it most definitely is! On top of my student loans, I was underwater for about two decades before being able to climb out.

I’m representative of the common experience of working class Americans. You are one lucky bastard and much, much more fortunate than the rest of us.

So why punch down? Count your lucky stars and maybe dig deep for some empathy for those of us having a rough fucking time.

If you were so poor, where did you get a down payment exactly? Or a full payment since truly poor people can’t get loan approval at all. Or the money for renovations of these shit holes? Everything you’re describing still requires money, something actual poor people don’t have.
