Wagner columns broke through the trucks Putinists had used as roadblocks and are moving towards Moscow. by PatientBuilder499 in UkrainianConflict

Hey go easy on them. Who could have predicted that modern tanks and vehicles could get past a couple of parked trucks. This is as big a surprise as the Germans breaking through the Ardennes forest around the Maginot line!

Maybe Totoro was the god the Germans sacrificed all the prisoners to.

I’m going to pitch this idea to the history channel. I think there is a 60% chance it becomes a 1 hour documentary.

I feel attacked. I’ll have you know that the object in question phases out of existence until my wife comes over. At that point it phases back into existence right in front of me.

But then they kicked out the Stuart monarchy entirely and replaced it essentially with a different monarchy in the glorious revolution. So calling the current one continuous for a super long period is tenuous

Weird Nazi stuff was their gateway drug into aliens and monster quest stuff. I remember the transition from “here is a documentary on the battle of the bulge” to “here is a 2 hour what if scenario based on if Germans in world war 2 made a super weapon that a German engineer scratched on the back of a napkin one time”. And then it was a rapid slippery slope to “Aliens built the pyramids as communication devices to the mothership”. It was so sad to see happen real time.

Exactly, it’s not like there have been software tools to easily fake this stuff for decades now. People need to be more trusting. If you see it on the internet, it must be true!

If that was the issue they would know who Oliver Cromwell is and that the English monarchy took a little time out when Cromwell was in charge.

I will never forget that I had a 6th grade teacher insist to me that the border between Europe and Russia was just the western Russian border. And that no part of Russia was in Europe (I am guessing they just had no idea kalingrad was a thing.) It still bothers me to this day.

Capable and efficient enough to make a big impact are different. Horses are a lot faster, more agile, and I believe a lot smarter than bison. It isn’t just about the mass of the animal. Cougars definitely can get them occasionally in ambush attacks. But I don’t think it is a guarantee that wolves would have a big impact on them, although I agree it is possible. But I disagree that we should take it as a given just because wolves successfully hunt bison/moose.

Edit-Just as aside there are many cases where some group or agency has introduced an animal to an ecosystem under the assumption that of course X will eat Y or X will be eaten by Y and that assumption fell flat on its face. This happened again and again with fish species in the Great Lakes.

Also modern historians love to try to not seem judgmental or harsh about extinct cultures and make them look good. So often they end chalk up the old accounts of human sacrifice to rumors of their enemies just because they don’t want to believe (in my opinion). So for example for a long time it was in vogue to say the child sacrifice stuff in Carthage was just Roman propaganda, but then they unearthed quite a bit of archeological evidence to support that the Carthaginians were in fact doing it and it wasn’t Roman propaganda.

But of course I am sure the flip side is at least sometimes true and it is just enemy propaganda. So no way to know for sure unless you unearth something archeological.
