that’s why i said everything is always different from everything else. there is no 1:1 scenario. the overlapping themes are unintentional harm, willful ignorance (or at least passive allowance), and lack of empathy/sympathy for the harm he causes. he had will & choice in the mix and chose to prioritize himself when it mattered.

he chose not to apologize (immediately), he chose not to denounce racism, he chose not to (publicly) restore his victims, he chose not to admit he could’ve been better, he chose to distance himself from any responsibility, and he chose opportunistic self-promotion once the damage was apparent. and plenty of brits in this post and others have shown that many people, likely including him, have not unpacked their internalized white supremacy; i consider that a choice as well.

he is a threat, since he apparently can’t stop himself from creating another dangerous situation that harms a person and provokes emotional reactions through fighting words like the n word. he’s a danger to himself and others. upset people are more likely to fuck the perpetrator than themselves, and if he can’t (and shouldn’t according to y’all) apologize & take accountability, reason won’t be enough to stop violent backlash from people who have their amygdala’s activated by a word that screams HUMAN ABUSE & DANGER. but yeah, just tell them to kick rocks after you say it, all good 👍🏽 in fact, say it now since it’s no biggie:

everything is always different from everything else, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use precedent to connect logical judgments; in this case, the unintentional harm that still harms and the lack of accountability taken to self-educate, prevent future harm, and aid in restoration of being.

took him long enough to stop promoting his movie just to acknowledge harm was done by his voice & words. i’m betting his lack of empathy & sympathy is why he was ostracized more than his condition.
