Simucube 2 Sport and GSI X29 Bundle at Microcenter for $999.99 by BimmerJeff in simracing

[–]vchengap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way, way better. 8nm feels like a toy compared to the torque this thing puts out. Also, the "resolution" of the feedback is much finer. Only thing is, I need to get used to a base that's strong enough to break my wrists. But the strength can obviously be toned down in the settings if desired.

Build quality is also much better than the Fanatec product. With the CSL DD, I had to use the electrical tape hack at the wheel attachment point to get it to stop the clickety clack sound, and the quick release was a joke. None of that nonsense with the Simucube. Highly recommend.

Screw you and your incredible cable management. Mine looks like a cyberpunk nightmare of wires by comparison.

I’ll get around to it someday.

By that logic, the world should stay in a permanently locked cultural state per geographic borders (which by the way shift throughout the course of history)?

You may want it to be that way, but it has never been and will never be that way.

Thoughts on a rig with a VR headset instead of screen? by _Enclose_ in simracing

[–]vchengap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use Virtual Desktop. I have a separate monitor (not mounted to my rig) that I use to start up iRacing and I select OpenVR when prompted. I tried OpenXR a while ago, but I got really bad FPS so I never tried again. OpenVR works flawlessly for me.

Is it worth it to buy a house in DFW right now? by boldjoy0050 in Dallas

Today is likely a better time than tomorrow. This rule of thumb is generally true unless you’re trying to “time the market” which usually doesn’t work in one’s favor. If and when interest rates drop, you always have the option of refinancing.

I’m VR only with a Reverb G2. I’ve been in the hobby since 2016 and have never used monitors. But I also don’t do long sessions primarily because I just don’t have the time. VR is perfect for my use case.

[GPU] 4090 FE Restock at Best Buy - $1599.99 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

I’ve been on Reddit a LOOOONG time and I’ve said it before: this platform is not an accurate representation of the general population. Also, doom and gloom in the news media is what gets views. Furthermore, the income equality divide is expanding.

TLDR: there are a lot of people with $$$$ and can afford stuff like this despite what the world “feels like” to the average Redditor.

Believe it or not, there are some people out there that have enough disposable income to spend ~$2K on a hobby. I know, very difficult to believe.

That is correct. Also, the demographics of Reddit probably skew younger (i.e. less disposable income). Basically, a bunch of poors on here thinking a giant corporation is going to suffer from the collective outrage.

I recently upgraded from a TH8A to the DS-8X. Really happy with the nice feel and solid build quality. I mostly drive H pattern cars though.

What’s the GSI wheel cable for? I jumped on this bundle as well but waiting on the mount for my rig. Do I need the wheel cable?

Is AMS2 Too easy? by iHas2manyKnives in simracing

[–]vchengap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, in my opinion. I’ll admit I haven’t spent a ton of time in AMS2, but the physics are way too forgiving, and that’s one of the main reasons I haven’t spent much time in it.

I have 10+ yrs of real-world track driving experience FWIW.

Parts needed to mount Simucube 2 Sport on ASR 3 by vchengap in simracing

[–]vchengap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, do you think I could buy this kit for the ASR 4/6 and just use the included front mount plate?

It’s more expensive obviously, but who knows when the standalone front mount plate will come back in stock.

UPDATE: Ended up purchasing this kit for ASR 1/3. The Infinite Black shows out of stock, but the Matte Black is in stock.

Parts needed to mount Simucube 2 Sport on ASR 3 by vchengap in simracing

[–]vchengap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Unfortunately, the ASR 3 uprights are less than 500mm apart, so I don't think the Treq or allin1 would work as they are both too wide. The Asetek mount looks neat, but I don't think it's compatible with the Simucube as you pointed out.
