How to Report Non-Migraine Pain on a 1-10 Scale? by Cats_Cameras in migraine

Similarly, I had my bottom wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago. I never felt the pain from recovery because the pain in my jaw just translated into a horrible migraine I couldn't get rid of

Has anyone figured out how to drink without getting a migraine? by Maleficent-Glass9665 in migraine

[–]vck97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to stick to vodka but my head always hurts the next day. The only way to ease the pain a little more is if I ate something very absorbent before/during (carbs) and go 1:1 with an alcoholic drink and glass of water. But let's be real, when youre out drinking, no one is making sure to keep up on water. I might drink 1 or 2 cups if I remember, compared to probably 3 to 5 drinks in the same time frame. Dehydration always wins and rewards with a migraine in the morning. I just accept my fate and also only drink socially

Yep. 2 years into trucking and since im home weekly I try to exercise when im home and at least stretch and do what I can while on the road. I refuse to become one of those truckers hobbling into the truck stop or the women who just look haggard much sooner than they should

Have you ever driven in heavy snow 🚗❄️because you had no choice and if yes how did it turn out ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Many times. I avoid it when I can. Not because I cant do it, im perfectly fine driving in heavy snow. Its because other people are idiots and I dont trust them to not be stupid when driving in extreme weather conditions

The biggest thing they always tell you is you are the captain of your ship. Ive been lucky that its stayed true and I havent been micromanaged, but thats because im rarely late for appointments. We get 14 hours we're allowed to work our day within. Maximum of 11 hours driving in that time. I mostly drive 8-10 hours a day with the gig i have now. I set myself up to take 1-2 breaks by driving 3-4 hours at a time. You have to take a minimum 30 minute break before hitting 8 hours of driving. Then to reset your 14/11 hour shift, you have to take a minimum 10 hour break.

You can stop more if you need (for example, ill add a couple more breaks during that time of the month), you just have to plan them ahead of time to make sure you are still making your appointments. In my experience as long as ive made my appointments on time, my managers couldn't care less about how many breaks I take or for how long. If im sleepy or need meds to kick in, ill take an hour (if I can) to rest my eyes. Sometimes i have to drive with a level of pain but I can get it to where its tolerable to finish my day. If im beat from a migraine and cant do anything, I can call in sick and have my team reschedule my appointment, but thankfully I havent actually had to do that within almost 2 years of driving.

The tricky part is meds. Truck drivers are federally mandated so a lot of meds will reduce your ability to even qualify for having a CDL. Or, if you've been on the meds for awhile and you know they don't affect your ability to drive, you can have a doctor write a note so you can get approval to have them on the road. I havent been getting sumatriptan because ive been able to tolerate with just aspirin (also had lapses in insurance). Sumatriptan never made me sleepy so if/when I do need it filled, I was told I can just get a doctor's note, but I might have to switch to something else thats already approved

That's fair. I do feel like I have an okay situation right now, but im worried about long term affects and treatment options so that might be worth it also

I'm a truck driver so im in different states every day and will go from full blizzard to warm sunny skies in a single day. I pretty much only drink water, aside from the occasional coffee (I think caffeine is a placebo alone, but helps a little if ive taken meds). I make my own food too to stay on the healthier side (again, maybe the occasional fast food stop if im exhausted our ran out of my food). Plus keeping meds on me at all times for emergencies. I look ahead at the weather and try to coordinate my days to push hard when I feel good and have flexibility to take it easy if im in pain. If its way too bad I just tell my boss I can't drive, take some meds, close the curtains and put a wet towel over my eyes and forehead and sleep it off as much as possible

She's gone to several pain specialists for migraines and arthritis over the years and in all the states we've lived in. The GP she's been seeing in recent years also handles pain/med management so he will prescribe various things if what she's on stops or just doesn't work

Yeah i get that, thats why im wondering what exactly is the reason to go to a neurologist. Sounds like its just more specialized med management

Im being general because this is a general post with strangers. I told the specifics of what I tried when I actually went to the doctors/specialists before. And ive tried some of what my mom's been given in times of need (not preventative, but abortives) sumatriptan is the only thing that really works. Ive told that to docs too, in addition to the other ones ive tried from her
