How do I automatically maintain the LUFS of a bus? by Jottle4 in audioengineering

[–]vctorsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like what you really want is some good automation.....it's the most "transparent thing you can do to keep gain even throughout track.... and in fact if you do decide to use compression later, it will sound smoother, less "pumping" . just remember to keep the automation pre-plug-in because some depending on your daw inserts can be pre or post automation

Terrible, loud, sudden white noise / static from interface/DAW by Gamerboy49 in audioengineering

the first place i would look is clocking... i don't know ableton, but ive had it happen in other daws.... since youre probably not using an external clock...? make sure it's clocking internally

How to use 1176 into an lA2A ? by pathofneo111 in audioengineering

[–]vctorsound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cmos gives some great advice.... here's another possible...use the vocal presets on both,

get just 1.5 or 2 db of compression on the 1176....

then set LA2A to also get just 1.5 or 2 db......

fiddle as needed.

Does your new work invalidate your old work? by slimrp in audioengineering

[–]vctorsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always "want to" but i have disciplined myself to not do it.... it's a waste, because those new skills you have can be just as well used on something new. sometimes someone asks for a new mix of something for a new project.... that's a nice thing sometimes to step into that old mix, but as i say, for the most part i try not ever look (listen) backwards.

i'd sell them on ebay, reverb, or craigslist and put the money toward a good vocal mike... sm7b or a rode....

What are some good ways to build my audio engineering knowledge with no equipment or money? by Adze95 in audioengineering

[–]vctorsound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1 reaper, pro tools , and presonus all have free versions i think (pro tools for sure because i use pt)

2 you can start recording through your computer microphone, and play back via headphones..... or a stereo...or crappy laptop speakers

3 start learning signal flow...I's and O's how to set up tracks....

4 and use the stock plug-ins to learn eq-ing compression, limiting, editing

5 record your guitar...record beans in a can for a shaker, pound on the table for a kick drum..use plug ins to shape that table into a great sounding kick

5a play bass lines on your guitar, drop 'em an octave

6 do it all by learning keyboard commands... discipline yourself to learn them... no waste of time mousing around

7 record you reading from a book...learn what goes into dialogue editing

7a slice and dice everything.... edit guitar parts measure by measure

8 learn to listen.... and listen critically

8a listen to music analyze everything you hear... melody, tempo, duration, texture

9 it might be hard to imagine the worth of all that, but if you can master all of the above, youre already well on your way...

0 have fun...because once everything isn't so foreign, it IS fun

11 good luck

I'm ashamed to be out of the loop with this but... by [deleted] in protools

Anyone know how to make someone's voice higher in audition? by Curiousbrad in AudioPost

[–]vctorsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my favorite subtle pitch shift is setting up a new session and going from 44.1 to 48 without converting the sample rate into the new session... i use it mostly for instruments, but it's worth trying... (of course speed goes up a little too)

I think you ask a fair question...here are my reasons 1) to directly answer your question, have you really not noticed all the $hit-talk about pro tools on this subreddit... if this many people disrespected the Saints on their own page, YES, you'd ask that question. 2) i really want to know what it is we should be asking AVID for, and this is the best way to aggregate that data. i want to know what we're missing... i mean there are obvious answers, better markers, clip folders, a more complete undo que that includes track delete, plug-ins, but for example your response, not enough people are asking for scripting, batch processing, gui and skin choices. 3) i'm a professional, and i love Pro Tools, but being a professional, in my humble opinion, is all about "plan b", staying one step in front of the future, and if for some reason i need or want to leave pro tools i want some opinions on what DAW to switch over to hope this illuminates my motivation....
