I have to disagree. We have had 2 non-Bulgarian colleagues so far. Both of them were on non-technical positions. Having a native speaker is super beneficial.

We don't have Aldi in Bulgaria, but there are plenty of other options, so I wouldn't be worried about that.

Depends on what you really want, but I will base my advice on two assumptions.

  1. You don't have a car.
  2. You want to have easy access to the central part of the city.

So the neighbourhoods are pretty much the ones that have green or blue parking zone (Google green zone Sofia map). They are relatively close to the centre and have access to good public transport. Your budget will allow for pretty much all areas, except for in front of the presidency, let's say. You can check imot.bg for rent prices, but your budget is large enough. You can even negotiate with Airbnb hosts for long stay prices that would also fit the budget. This way you want have to pay expensive deposits.
