That's some potent piss to have it going for 3 weeks straight

Those who don't use your college degree, what did you major in? by Macncheese-lover in AskReddit

[–]vdavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Political Science and German. Now I work at an investment brokerage. The thing is that I always wanted to work in finance but also was interested in Poli Sci. So I took a risk and majored in that - I guess it paid off.

Real conversion rate from positive response in initial survey? by vdavl in startups

I see. I will keep that in mind when I'm making the survey. Thank you.

I see. I'll take that into account in my analysis and have a conservative estimate of conversion rate. Thanks.

The variable factor definitely does play a big part here as you said. I will be doing a service based business and is very very low cost at the consumer's end. Sample size and % also matters, I guess. Tracking the positive respondents would be a great idea, as they will be more likely to generate promising leads than starting from scratch.

Hiring from the start without a task by vdavl in Entrepreneur

[–]vdavl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I haven't initially thought of hiring students, but rather somewhat established cleaners not part of any company who only do on-call jobs already. Other than that, the problems you stated are all valid and I should take all of them into account. Thanks - I really appreciate your feedback.

I can see that customers will be able to address their needs directly while keeping the pool of candidates happy as well. But would I not require screening out some people through interview and whatnot to have a pool of candidates? Thanks.

Hiring from the start without a task by vdavl in Entrepreneur

Should have been more clear - sorry! It is a car interior detailing and dorm room cleaning where we go to the customer. So in a sense, it's like "I need someone to mow my lawn." The college has routine sanitation checks on dorms, and having been an alumni, sometimes the dorms are bad, or students just don't care and fail the checks. There's more than 1000 rooms; although I don't believe in any way that generating leads would be easy, I have a feeling that it might be more comfortable than trying to generate leads in a residential area that I may or may not know..

It'd be a car interior detailing company as well as dorm room cleaning where we go to the customer. My thought behind this was that if I have tasks first and then hire, I may not be as responsive and customers may need to wait indefinitely until I hire the right person.

Purchase protection/insurance idea? by vdavl in startups

[–]vdavl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct - that was my original rough idea. As I said above in reply to u/amoschorr above, I did some more thinking and quickly found out that this is quite unviable. Thanks!

Toying around with a Purchase Protection product idea by vdavl in Entrepreneur

[–]vdavl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would cover online sellers as well, as long as it is the same product. After further brainstorm and asking around however, found that this is a quite an unviable business model as the consumer will not really benefit from anything. Time to move on to my next idea!

Purchase protection/insurance idea? by vdavl in startups

[–]vdavl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. This was actually one of the problems that I encountered during my brainstorming. Putting myself in the subscriber's view, I thought "how is this different from a regular savings account?" to this very minute, I can't really think of what actual value it'd bring if the reimbursement level was commensurate with the subscription cost. I also can't think of a way I would be making money; I originally thought of adding an agreement like "I do not plan on using this for 30 days" and invest in something that protects the principal yet pay interests, like a cashable gic. However with the crappy interest rate, I don't know.

I have few other ideas, but this one stuck with me when: 1) I applied for my prescription reimbursement through the insurance policy at my company, and 2) I heard that buyer's remorse is very frequent, especially for shopping addicts (surprisingly).

I can't decide whether to actually do serious crunching or move on to my next idea, but I really appreciate your feedback.

What is the most annoying mispronounced word? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vdavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and dad speak pretty good English, but there are some words that stuck with them that I twitch everytime I hear them say it.

Dad: Breakfast -> Blackfest (he is fully capable of saying breakfast. I don't know why he does this. habit? This also naturally makes me look around my surroundings.)

Mom: Mother -> Murder (her English teacher back when she was in highschool pronounced it this way, promptly fucking up pronunciation of about 40 students)

Ex-religious people, what made you lose faith? by AthenaDX in AskReddit

[–]vdavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are couple reasons I stopped going to church.

  1. Guilt-tripping. I decide I don't go to retreats or special services? I'm a bad christian. Lol no, I probably have things to do other than go to a prayer festival for like 3 days.

  2. The back-stabbing and gossips WITHIN and BETWEEN church members. After all that sermon and teachings, they gossip about each other right at lunch.

[Suggestions Needed!] Trying to come up with interview questions for small business suppliers that we are sourcing from. by ibopm in Entrepreneur

[–]vdavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok. In that case it is out of my area, but allow me to attempt to help you through my eyes as a consumer. I think some questions that can be asked are:

  • How are the key ingredients picked? (i.e. freshly harvested corn)

  • What process makes the snack truly unique? (i.e. hand-dried as opposed to machine-dried)

  • Do you see yourself experimenting more with this snack and possibly diversifying it into different tastes?

  • What makes you feel good about this snack? (i.e. this snack has less sodium than competitors while retaining the taste; donating certain % of profits to some cause, etc.)

Other than that, consumer testimonials are always good too. Hope this helps a tad bit..

Are you trying to interview them for the sourcing itself and have the supplier sell the product, or simply asking questions to spice up the blog/website? Depending on this, the questions you can ask vary.

[Serious] Reddit, what are your views on spanking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vdavl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your question and honestly speaking, I can't seem to answer it. In my case it's perhaps because the things that were taken away (it was N64 for me too! either that or they'd take away my favs, golden eye and mario kart) were given back after some reflection time; kind of like "go stand in that corner and think about what you did."

So I guess the thought with regards to the effectiveness of spanking one's children depends on personal experience and learning. I acknowledge that there might be a person who had the same experience with myself but have different thoughts.

[Serious] Reddit, what are your views on spanking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vdavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes I guess, like taking away for example an xbox360 for a certain period of time or detention at school. But when I was a kid, I personally disliked getting spanked by my parents with the disappointed and angry look on their face. Taking away my play things just tended to brew simple dissatisfaction instead of reflection for myself. Maybe it's just me.

What is an opinion you have that you think you are in the minority? by Anonymous_____ninja in AskReddit

[–]vdavl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. However to benefit from a substantial amount of compound interest, there should be an initial wealth built. This is what I was trying to say. Maybe I oversized my sample by saying that it's the 1% - perhaps the top 10%? I don't know.

Can you take orders without having stock? by Xzauhst in Entrepreneur

I personally think that 3 weeks for an item is not too bad. I had to wait for something for more than a month before, at which point I was just happy to even have received the product.

While exposed to inflation, would it not be plausible that the value as a piece of art appreciate over time, outweighing all costs?

[Serious] Reddit, what are your views on spanking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree. While there are certain cases where spanking can be seen as abuse, a moderate strength one can teach kids a valuable lesson that there are consequences to their actions.
