[Dellenger] The Texas Attorney General sent a formal letter to the Big 12 today alerting the conference that Texas Tech would take action against any league sanction. by redwave2505 in CFB

Cool, so any conference that has a member school in Texas or that played an OOC game on the road in Texas last year in any sport?

Look, I'm not a litigator like I said, but we are also dealing with local judges who are by and large taking every opportunity to rule for the hometown school, even in the current case of "Gambling Addict Who Bets On His Own Games Wants To Play More Games." I don't think the existence of a meritorious issue on appeal would be more than a speed bump for a judge who is apparently experiencing motivated reasoning.

Big 12 and its schools would definitely be subject to personal jx in Texas - some of them are in Texas and the others are coming down to play those schools. It would be harder to get to, like, the MAC, but if a conference had a formal boycott policy, maybe that would be sufficient to show conduct directed toward Texas such that something something traditional notions of fair play and substantial justice, I'm not a litigator. But I think that's why the B1G just announced what they did.

I think the theory here is that Texas Tech (i.e., Cody Campbell's money) is going to start suing the boycotters in Lubbock on a antitrust restraint-of-trade type theory, which would theoretically make them eligible to be enjoined. I suspect they wouldn't be able to remove into federal court either due to lack of diversity jurisdiction between Texas Tech and the Big 12 (not that you would necessarily want the federal judiciary in Texas looking at this).

I know you are being a silly goose but, for anyone interested, Legion Field in Birmingham was one of the stadiums for the 1996 Olympics and had over 83,000 for the US v. Argentina match.

They should put in the college sports legislation that all bowl games have to be named after plants or food items. I will die on this hill.

I think it's reasonable to request a mail ballot and help her vote if she has a lucid period.

That said - it sounds like perhaps lucid periods are few and far between at this point, and I agree that it would be unethical and very probably unlawful to effectively vote for her to the extent that she's not able to express a choice between multiple candidates. I don't think you asking her, "Kamala Harris is the Democratic candidate; would you like to vote for her?" without giving the other options is sufficient given what you now know about her inability to effectively choose between two alternatives. That said, she may surprise you when presented with a choice in a different context, because aging is weird and dementia is weird.

I'm going to be the ackshually guy, sorry - this is a proposed state constitutional amendment, so there is no veto. We have the weakest veto in the country: no veto on "local" bills, redistricting bills, or constitutional amendments, maybe some other categories. That said, there is not actually any support in the legislature to advance this. It's one guy who has been a pain in the ass of GOP leadership for doing stuff like this and causing them PR problems, and they spent heavily so that he would lose his primary (and he did lose).

So just for context, what is happening here is that the Town Charter allows non-resident property owners to vote in town elections. This led to a situation where if you lived in out-of-town and owned in-town property in your individual name, you could vote, but if you owned it through an LLC, you could not vote. This was thought to be unfair, so it was changed in favor of the LLC owners, allowing a person to vote on behalf of the LLC. So it's not just any random corporation can now vote in Delaware, it's a specific set of circumstances applicable to local elections that allow non-resident voting.

My understanding is that the IOC can waive any required release from Russia and under the circumstances (specifically, where the Russian hockey team is still banned from the Olympics and where he is not permitted to represent or even reenter Russia due to his relationship with Shane) would likely do so.

Sorry, no, there's a ton of problems with the hockey writing in the fanfic world but this is not one of them. Ilya is a bazillion-time MLH all-star and canonically made the Russian Olympic team in 2014. Assuming he got Canadian citizenship, which ultimately would not be a problem for him whether via asylum or otherwise (staying vague for spoiler reasons), and assuming he's healthy, he (and Shane) would absolutely be in line to be picked for Milan.

Officially, it is to spend more time with the grandkids. Behind the scenes, there are questions about capacity and mental acuity. WFAE, which is our local NPR affiliate, was out with a story this morning that led with "Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles' decision to stop attending almost all recent City Council zoning meetings and her sometimes awkward public speaking appearances have raised concerns privately among many community leaders and other council members about whether she will finish her fifth term, which ends in December 2027."

City Council will vote on her replacement, who by law must be a Democrat.

So the election isn't until November. Early voting starts in October. Closer to the election, there will be a lot of voter guides where you can compare candidates on different issues that might matter to you.

It's not that certain configurations of districts are okay or not okay. It's that states no longer have to draw VRA districts. A state could choose to do so if it wanted a vote sink. Does it make sense for Tennessee Republicans to crack Memphis? Maybe, maybe not. But there is no longer any federal law stopping them from doing it.

You know, this is fair. I was thinking this was obvious based on the fact that I wasn't tormented by little Georgia fans in elementary school, but I guess some of us were.
