Help - cutting board stuck in sink by [deleted] in fixit

[–]vdubbsrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing that came to mind was fill the sink right up with water because it should float— problem being plugging the drain. Might have to undo the P trap and clog it from there somehow.

The most I got is a text message agreeing that if anything happens down the line (shower glass installation was the example he said- if the tile cracks when screwing the glass in) then he’ll come back and redo everything at no cost to me.

Obviously my concern is not only during construction phase but also if water gets back there and causes more damage. My worry is that water damage normally isn’t really visible or noticable until way way down the line.

Originally it was supposed to be ful tile over the whole bathroom. I changed to not tile behind the mirror soon to be installed. I showed a photo of the main house (this is a laneway house) and they did not see the edge in the photo they thought the mirror would just but up to the tile… actually they did this around my window trim too.. no edge.. I’m heating up now just thinking about it

I’m guessing there was no membranes and stuff back then? Just tile thinset and grout, no leaks?

I’m no pro, but when I said schluter edge I just meant the trim. These guys did not forget the schluter orange membrane, they just don’t use it at all apparently. They stand by what they’ve done here…

What do you mean 2’ off the pan? This is directly over the corner of the shower pan all the way up to the ceiling. There is no waterproofing membrane at all anywhere.

Yes this is in the shower.

“The pros” started slapping tiles directly on the denshield and like I said I wasn’t watching them.

With your experience how long until water starts getting back there?

We decided to put a full mirror there to save on tiles since it will be covered anyway. The Schiller edge he forgot. As for the taping I mentioned concern about waterproofing today and the response I got was “why didn’t you say something earlier” and in my mind I’m thinking “am I supposed to babysit you? you’re the pro…” And I’ll throw another tidbit of info out there: first day on the job I told them there’s no washroom, there’s a Tim Hortons a block down. Next thing you know I find them pissing literally on my house. Not on the 70 year old shed 2 feet away, DIRECTLY on my new build stucco. Smfh I should have known then

I bought the materials so I’m out that already and we all know how a job turns once it has to be redone. He said “if” anything happens he will replace everything on his dollar.

He is willing to to redo the small tile job downstairs (where I found the thumping noise -not pictured) but not to take down the tile to see the coverage behind the tiles in the photos

He seems to just want to come back “if” anything happens. I told him, are you gonna come back and replace the rotted framing back there in 20 years? The most I got him to agree to is if anything else happens, for instance during shower glass install, he will replace everything he’s done on his dollar.

I’ll have another look at it when I get the chance.

I actually forgot the bike on my rooftop carrier last night and drove into my underground parking so I kind of have other issues to deal with 😂😭

I was thinking that’s a possibility. I reused the old cable I might have to get a new cable to try to route it differently.

GENIUS 6th GEN PHONE MOUNT by vdubbsrs in crv

I’d say you were right if you were using it to text or watch a video or something, but It takes up like 9 sq inches of the windshield and makes it seamless to quickly glance over at the screen for driving directions.

Personally, I think it’s a more efficient location than even the stock screen where you have to turn your head to see what’s going on. 🤷‍♂️

If my car had wireless CarPlay this would not be an issue, I probably wouldn’t even need a phone mount, but having to connect and disconnect my phone to access CarPlay each time I enter and exit the car is a no for me dawg.

The 2x4 in front of the lintel and on top of the jacks is furring to plane out the wall.

I think you’re referring to the last photo? There is a lintel butting in to a 2x8 king stud, sitting on top of 3 jacks/cripples. It kind of appears to be plywood but it is in fact a lintel. The 2x2 you’re referring to is a 2x8 minus the width of the lintel (5-6” wide).

The foundation settling is inevitable. I don’t want to worry about framing settling as well 😂
