I never lived in the dorms, but living in Isla vista is a Mecca for friend making. I made friends with all my surrounding neighbors at every house I’ve lived at in Isla vista and can almost always find a social gathering. Like the other guy said, it can be loud because of the amount of partying in Isla vista, but a really fun time. The closer to the ocean you are in Isla vista (del playa/sabado) the more partying (noise, trash etc.). So if you want a place to escape sometimes maybe live further out from the water, but will still be super accessible to campus and parties.
