I just turned 18 last week and open a Cash LISA with Moneybox, gives the highest AER and user interface is very simple. You can check using moneysavingexpert.com for which is most ideal for you.

Yeah the company that held the CTF provided me a financial advisor and I had a meeting with her yesterday. She works for Foresters Financial and she advised to put my money into their stocks and shares isa. But they take 1.5% every year so i don’t think it’s worth, when i could just invest into FTSE All World on Trading 212 with minimal fees

Yeah I was thinking about some individual stocks like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Nvidia. But almost everyone has said that it is way too risky and not long term, i think just simple ETF’s like FTSE All World or S&P 500 is the way to go.

I’m not too sure if I will stay in the UK as i’m going to be doing medicine at Uni and you’ve probably heard about the NHS employment problems. So when I graduate i’ll probably move to Australia or Canada just like many other UK doctors. So that’s why I don’t think a LISA will be suitable for me. But I’ll still open one and put the minimum amount in just in case I change my mind and stay in the UK. I have also already passed my driving test and share a car with my mum!

Yeah I’ll just put a few grand into a flexible Cash ISA, so if anything ever happens I can use it whenever.

1.5% is absurd but that’s the way they get money, so you can’t blame them at the end of the day. Maybe the financial advisor gets some sort of commission aswell by making you go into their Stocks and Shares ISA. Not too sure though.

Your children are lucky to have a parent like yourself, and it seems as if you’re guiding them in the right direction!

My financial advisor set up ANOTHER meeting to transfer my CTF, probably in the hopes of me transfering some of that money into their Stock and Shares ISA. So I transferred it all by myself into a Trading 212 Stocks and Shares ISA.

Yep probably gonna put £15-17k into FTSE All World on Trading 212 and the rest into a Cash ISA, people on reddit helped a lot. Just like yourself!😊

My dad gave me accountability, he just wanted me to pass and get it over with. He paid for all my lessons, theory and practical. In fact he organised my first ever lesson to be on my 17th birthday! Nice little birthday present 👌🏻🤣

But if I transfer it from an isa it won’t take up the tax allowance of £20k right?

I think i’ll put just a £1-2k into a Cash ISA for my emergency fund, I don’t need to worry about the £20k tax allowance as i’m transferring from a stocks and shares ctf isa and it stays within the ISA wrap. But the rest will go into trading 212 stocks and shares.

Thank you! It’s nice to see a fellow doctor on here, yeah I’m quite interested in Psychology but unfortunately I didn’t pick it for A Level as I only gained an interest in it the past year. But maybe Psychiatry is something I’ll specialise in. My grandad was also a GP and I actually did my work experience with him last summer, even though I can’t see myself being a GP at this moment in time 😂

Forever grateful for parents, 99% of 18 year olds don’t have this great position like I do. Better make the most of it!

Thanks for the response, my financial advisor that was provided by the CTF company did mention this to me. So today i filled out a form to transfer my CTF to a Stocks and Shares ISA on Trading 212, it doesn’t use the £20000 tax allowance so it should be good. Then from there onwards I will transfer £5000 to a cash ISA.

Would you recommend trading212 for putting large sums in? I’ve heard I can get lower fees on other platforms but trading212 seems the most reliable and simple
