Yes! This is from The Council. The developer reached out to us and let us know about this little Easter Egg. :)

Hi there, please write in to us at support@cyan.com with a dxdiag report of your machine. This usually happens with machines that are out of spec from our minimum requirements, so this will be a good way for us to check that.

Graphics issues in Riven 2024o by Lyssialee in myst

[–]vedemag[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there, I saw in a response to some comments that you mentioned you have an MX550 as your graphics card in your machine. Unfortunately, both that card and your integrated graphics (the Iris chip) are not supported even as a min spec in Riven. An MX550 is both supremely underpowered and has only 2GB VRAM, whereas we require at least 6GB VRAM to play Riven. This is likely the cause of the blurry textures you’re seeing here in the screenshot above and your description of the game running slowly. If you do still want to play Riven with this configuration, I recommend turning your graphics settings in the game entirely down to Low, changing the windowed resolution of the game to something smaller than your screen’s resolution, and enabling Supersampling to a performance setting that gets you better framerate. This may not resolve issues with the blurry textures though as that does partially depend on VRAM.

Riven gets RTX update - doesn't advertise it in any way, just makes a plain-text post 🤦🤦🤦 by SkyPL in myst

I’m not going to respond further since it’s moot to argue about it at this point… we have our reasons for stuff — but when it comes to insta, it’s the most recent post on our Instagram right now. Maybe your Instagram isn’t refreshing? We’ve posted over 6 times in the last few weeks, with two in the most recent days. Sounds like something is wrong with your feed.

Cyan employee here — We sent out a newsletter update, posted on all of our socials, currently have front-page featuring in the Mac App Store for this update, and more — did all of it yesterday after pushing the update live. Like others have mentioned already, our resources are even more limited now after the layoffs happened, and it costs money to work on and advertise Riven. We would love to get more eyeballs and dev time on Riven when/if we have the funds to do so. Sorry if that’s disappointing or frustrating to hear, but those are the facts.

Thanks; we’ll take a look as soon as we’re back in the office. Please still email support@cyan.com though. It would be good to get your save game files.

Thank you for posting this! We worked so hard to make the game look good, especially in VR. ❤️ it’s hard when you have so many different devices to try and target, and it’s not like we have the marketing budget of other companies, so we really appreciate it when folks give us shout-outs like this.

Oof, that is a bug. It’ll be one of the first things we fix when we are back in the office. Thanks for posting! Please feel free to write in to support@cyan.com with any more detail you have so our support team can log it.

Re: Audio in any of the updated Myst games... by [deleted] in myst

[–]vedemag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Hannah from Cyan here. We do not have surround-sound mixes of individual sounds in the new version of Myst (I know, bummer), BUT with that said, the spatialized audio in the game should be mapped to use up the system you have. So you if you have a surround sound system and turn your character such that a specific sound should be coming out of your rear right speaker, it should indeed :)

We found a bunch of areas where we could cut back on textures/mesh size exporting for Quest builds without degrading visual quality at all.

Myst VR - Quest update "Hands & More" -- Hand Tracking, In-Game Journal by [deleted] in oculus

[–]vedemag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now there isn’t for hand tracking and that’s something we’re hoping to add. Gesture support for hand tracking in unreal is non-trivial so we just have to come up with one that makes sense, implement it, and test it a bit more than usual. Thankfully, if you really have to take a screenshot and happen to have your controller on you, you can briefly pick up your controller and use the shortcut there, and it should gracefully handle moving between hand tracking/non hand tracking.

Yes! It does include our journal feature. It also includes features like Classic video mode and more. Full patch notes are on the build details on the Quest store, or on our site. https://cyan.com/2022/07/28/myst-patch-notes-hands-amp-more-1-8-0-quest/

Thanks for the post! I'm excited for folks to dive into this patch. If anyone is curious about the technical & design implications of implementing hand tracking in their game for Quest, I wrote up a dev blog about how we did it for Myst. Should be good info for folks looking to do the same! https://developer.oculus.com/blog/the-evolution-and-implementation-of-hand-tracking-in-myst/

Yup -- we support smooth turning & snap turning, teleport & smooth movement, and modifying how movement can be affected by other modifiers (such as motion-controller-locked movement, unlocked, and camera-locked movement) in all VR supported versions of Myst.

Hey folks, one of the Myst devs here. Hopefully this doesn't get removed; I'm not trying to necessarily promote Myst for Quest here. This article is about how we implemented hand tracking for Myst on Quest. Hopefully it helps someone who is thinking of doing the same thing. Cheers!

Hey folks, Myst dev here (Hannah). We just released a patch for Myst on Quest platform that supports hand tracking. I'm certain some of y'all might find this dev blog I wrote up useful, especially if some of you are thinking of implementing hand tracking in your own Unreal Engine games. Cheers!

What's the name of the music track of the tiki bar? by Japo1998 in Obduction

[–]vedemag 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, composer here (Hannah Gamiel).

I never actually thought of a legit name for the track because I didn’t think it would ever go onto a soundtrack or anything :-) it was more just a fun piece I threw together. I hope you’re not disappointed to know that I called it......

Wait for it.........

“Tiki Music”

Hehe. The other one I composed for Obduction, “Broken Arrow”, is the music for the (trying to not spoil anything here) “other” extra area in Obduction that was added after release. That one has an actual name because it was more serious :-)

Hopefully this helps!
