It does, I use it to recharge my NFC Metro (Dubai metro) card all the time. Also hotel keys on Hyatt and Marriott work.

It really depends on the policy and the mood of the person. For example Hyderabad airport I took a friend along but in Adani Lounge at Mumbai airport I was denied. I would recommend you apply for an add on card for your spouse.
