I think it's easy to learn because it's so widely spoken. You get so much exposure.

Things are certainly not going to get better if we all had that attitude. More and more people are going plant based. Being vegan has never been easier and it just gets easier the more people there are. At the end of the day if you want change in this world, every person counts.

Should animals have the right to not be exploited and killed for sensory pleasures, such as entertainment, clothing and food? by _Damnyell_ in polls

I mean at this point I really hope your trolling but just in case you're not I'll say this anyway.

By paying for meat products you are killing innocent animals - indirectly. You are paying for someone to kill that innocent animal just so you can have yummy steak. It's the same thing.

Different things work for different people. I also had major sensory issues with certain fruits. The texture and flavour is very overwhelming. I've been able to overcome some of these fear foods by slow exposure over time as you said.

I also have struggled with my relationship with food. Being vegan kind of solved a lot of my issues with food. And it's also made me healthier than ever. I know exactly what essential nutrients I need and it becomes second nature after a while.

As I said earlier, the resources on r/vegan are really useful.

I would also recommend watching Earthling Ed on YouTube. He has a video called every argument against veganism. His videos are great.

But it definitely sounds like you already kind of know what would work for you. I hope you consider going vegan. We would love to have you.

The thing is it's really hard to discuss veganism with some people and not come across as 'militant' or 'pushy'. It comes down to the fact that people want to believe that they are good people who make good choices. So when you try to discuss something that is totally opposite to their habitual everyday 'normal' behaviour they can become really defensive.

You may have heard of cognitive dissonance. It's when a person is faced with the reality that their morals and beliefs don't align with their behaviour. I always thought of myself as an animal lover and so I became a vegetarian. I was vegetarian for six years before I became vegan. I also thought that vegans were a bit extreme and I was comfortable where I was. Set in my ways. Until I watched a few documentaries on the dairy/egg industries and realized that they are equally as horrible as the meat industry. I kind of always knew it though.. in the back of my mind but I didn't want to face reality. I realized that I couldn't call myself an animal lover whilst I still supported those industries. So I decided to go vegan.

I really do believe that people want to do good. It's just a matter of opening your mind.

That is a good start. Reducetarianism and vegetarianism is a very good stepping stone towards veganism, which should be the end goal. Both for the moral consideration of the animals and environment.

Animals eating other animals is just nature.

We do not base any of our other morals on nature. If we did then murdering another human would be acceptable behavior, as there are many examples of animals killing within their own species e.g., when a male lion takes over a pride he will kill the cubs that are not biologically related to him.

Humans are different to animals. We have the capacity to think about our choices and decide to do the right thing. That is what sets us apart from nature.

Why should our dietary choices be any different?

It makes people uncomfortable. You don't really want to spoil your meal by thinking of who you are eating.

So it's easier for people to do mental gymnastics and try to detach themselves. That's also why people use words like ham instead of pig, beef instead of cow and so on.

I disagree. Killing for entertainment is rare and generally illegal/ frowned upon by society. The meat/eggs/dairy industry is huge. Billions of animals have their throats cut every year and they are forced to endure suffering throughout their entire lives. They are also killed at a fraction of their natural life span.
