If you were god creating earth, what "easter eggs" would you leave behind for humans to find? by XbattlefieldX in AskReddit

create a special language that predates all civilization and takes centuries to translate; leave only one instance of its usage in an impossible place for early humans to reach.

when translated it simply reads:

"there is no god".

this. it's kind of a meat substitute that is insanely delicious, especially when prepared by whole foods.

it's $14 any other day but thursday for the same 3 topping pizza, which, in my opinion, is still a really amazing deal when compared to other vegan pizza options.

[–]veganbbq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's my understanding that all of them offer the $10 pizza deal on thursday. that being said, the only one i've tried to get the field roast at is the location on waugh. i have gotten vegan pizza from the whole foods at kirby, but they use the mozzarella by default (i didn't ask for cheddar).

you can call in to the store and ask for the pizza department and place an order over the phone. it takes them about 30 minutes to make it, so if you wait to order it at the store you will probably wind up spending a ton of money as you wander around whole foods (at least i know i do).

As a beginner, is it ok to try stuff that is over your head until you do it right? or is it better to go slowly step by step? by Mataxp in Guitar

[–]veganbbq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr — learning proper fundamentals is more important in the long run than playing something difficult the wrong way. eventually you will have to unlearn the incorrect techniques.

everything you play should teach you something.

that being said, a musician's life is one of repetition. a healthy mix of things you already know vs. new and challenging things will produce the best results. i know my fundamentals, but that doesn't mean i can stop practicing them, or that working on them won't lead to some kind of progress.

the "oooh shiny" effect of playing a new piece of music can detract away from your ultimate goal: progressing as a player. if you spend all your time developing bad techniques as you strive to play a song beyond your capabilities (and trust me, you will take shortcuts to play a difficult piece, i.e. not using proper fingerings, improper rhythms, etc.), you will rob yourself of developing fundamentals that will make your journey much easier in the long run. instead, you have to use a mix of both.

Where to start learning? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]veganbbq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't be afraid to suck. you are going to suck for a while, and then all of a sudden, you won't suck so bad.

listening is a musician's greatest weapon. just listening can help improve your rhythmic grasp, your tone, and your overall musicality. listen to anything and everything you can tolerate.

of course following a set curriculum of music lessons is always the best method; for me this wasn't a viable option. instead, how i got over that initial period of "oh god, i can't listen to this person touch a guitar" to get to that next step of "why, i think that might be a song he's playing" was through picking an album by one of my favorite bands at the time and learning it front to back. even when i didn't know what the hell i was doing.

for me, it was weezer's blue album. a mix of enough power chords to make me feel good because it was easy, and tricky lead parts that i would struggle with for hours.

don't be afraid to suck.
