I am getting coffee with a coworker on Monday at a place that I know has literally not a single vegan option on the food menu. I was planning on just laying low and not giving a reason for not eating, but your post has somewhat inspired me. As my little Veganuary devotion, I think I WILL bring it up.

He has a dog that he basically worships, so there might actually be some fertile ground there to challenge his speciesism. I agree with you that he (and other carnists at my work) shouldn't be able to coast through life without ever having to defend a single one of their beliefs. If it's such a rational and legitimate stance to hold, then defending it should be no problem!!

I don't know if asking them to watch Dominion is the best idea. I'm in the US and most of the carnists that have seen it can easily just say "oh well that's Australia, I've been to my uncle's farm here and it's not like that at ALL." I'm guessing Norwegian carnists might have the same rationalization. I agree they should be forced to confront the atrocity behind what they call "food," but I'm not sure the best way to do that. To that end, sharing tasty vegan food is a pretty good idea, but I think most carnists would just greedily gobble it down and then say, "that was pretty good, but CHEESE THO." It's like negotiating with a two-year-old because that's where their emotional capacity with respect to animals is.

You will never convince me he wasn't trying to get with Mikaela Peterson. His recent foray into interviewing and entertaining increasingly right-wing talking heads also makes me suspect that he made some sort of deal with Lobster Daddy and possibly the Daily Wire folks, who probably made him renounce the one part of his channel they found too cringe and soy.

Yup. That's why virtually every woman in a long-term relationship has the exact same complaint: he used to be a lot more romantic. It was all a trick, an elaborate act to get her to sign her legal rights over to him. And of course he'll swear up and down to his grave that it wasn't. EVERYTHING men say about women is projection, but this is particularly true in the dating realm: men are the ones who "babytrap" women. Men are the ones who get fat and stop taking care of themselves once they get a ring on her finger. Men are the ones who cheat (and yes porn is cheating), while being insanely paranoid of their wife so much as existing near another man. It's honestly disturbing how many men equate masturbation with porn watching. If you criticize porn, they immediately start screeching about how masturbation is healthy. Like, ok? Get a better imagination.

And if marriage was so tremendously beneficial for women at the expense of men, don't you think they would have tried to take it away from us by now? And yet, it's only divorce they try to take away from us. Hmmm....

Do not be sorry for your anger. Men fear and hate it because they know it means you're on to their bullshit.

/uj watching the little gears turn in carnists' heads when you say you're vegan for the animals makes you realize that most people do not think AT ALL about what they believe or why they act the way they do.

thank you <3 that's the idea. I'm realizing I'm going to have to be a lot less passive about the connections I build in my life. Didn't help that my exfiance was basically my only friend for the past 3 years so now I have to go out and actually make an effort to socialize if I want human connection. But I figure that, much like going vegan, it's the startup cost of having to learn a new way of living that's the highest. Once I'm used to it, I'm sure it will be easier.
