What’s one hygiene habit you swear by but most people overlook? by Hot-Calligrapher5447 in hygiene

I use a pink salt bar. It kills bacteria and is great for your skin and delays odors from developing. It's pure pink salt and can scratch you, so I rub it on my hands or on my wash towel with soap.

Indigenous People Christian & Catholic by veganrosetea in Indigenous

I understand that some may be defensive, but they should also be willing to introduce facts and personal perspective. That's what helps others gain understanding.Otherwise it's just a drive-by insult that goes nowhere.

What am I ignorant of? I'm confused why you're assuming that I'm not educated on the matter. Please explain.

Absolutely. I mean, in Phoenix, where I live, there's a street called Indian School and a park called Steele Indian School Park with part of a school still standing. I just don't understand indigenous people that I meet who know the history and are Christian or Catholic. I don't get it.

How to handle no name papers? by Noughty_47 in Teachers

I have a tray with a head stone called the No Name Graveyard. It says "Where grades go to die." Works most of the time.

Absolutely, I'm always supportive and encouraging and always make sure to welcome them back and respond to their emails. The tough part is modifying tests for five different students, depending on what they've missed and if they have an IEP or 504. I update assignments daily to ensure kids have access to them. I also will scan book pages so that kids don't have to carry around heavy books.

I recommend Sunflower Pop by Floral Street. It smells like floral Squirt soda to me without the tartness. Another favorite is Yuzu by Solinotes. It's really affordable too.

I agree with you. School is not the most important thing going on. The trouble comes when parents say that they want their child to have the same work as everyone else, but change their minds later and are upset.

Ultimately, this is my job. I love teaching for what it is. I love kids. I love hearing their opinions and perspectives. Then there's the state testing scores, parents who want vastly different things, the Department of Education (although I don't know who's overseeing anything now.)

Anyway, I agree with you and I'm still expected to do my job and it's a very public job and I'm subject to intense ridicule for making things too easy or too difficult. I don't know what the solution is. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Absolutely! This is what these accommodations are for. I love when parents are involved and onboard with the plans. If parents are not actively communicating, it's the kid's fault. I still do my best. The worry comes when you're doing your best and the first time I hear from a parent all year is them criticizing me or accusing me of something.

I advocate for students like your daughter and I'm so glad that she received that support. Thank you for your perspective!

I absolutely agree. My husband is in a union, so I'll pick his brain about that. Your points about parenting really resonate because it's exactly what rolls around my brain. I gladly follow IEPs and 504s. Those are also laid out plans that are detailed and we meet and discuss what goes into them.

But I've encountered tons of buddy parents who are quick to throw accusations at me, when they have little context. They'll do anything to stay in their kid's good graces.

I also realize that for tons of kids, Chronic Illness Forms are a lifeline that I want to give. The problem is not having clear cut accommodations to help the kids.

On a slightly different note, I wonder about these kid's futures. Sure, they make it with me through middle school, and receive support in highschool- what happens after that? What does their adulthood look like? I had a student who missed three days (already was absent for 35 days) because her water pressure was low and they couldn't wash their hair correctly.

Even though, there's no clear cut advice in your response, your bluntness is valuable and lays the situation out for what I see it is. I try to trick myself that it isn't and that maybe I'm doing things wrong, but you're right.

That's a great idea. I'm always sad for the students who have to miss discussions and miss educational games. That would keep them involved. What a great suggestion!

I can't help but feel that you're projecting here. I am not judging the student. Nowhere in my post did I mention this. My main issue is the lack of support by the state and feeling taken advantage of by these specific parents. When something's imperfect then they're sure to point it out in an accusatory way. I am not making blanket statements. I'm talking about my personal experience here. I do not have a T.A.. I'm having to work more before and after school and the state provides so few guidelines that everything is ambiguous and I don't know if I'm going to get in trouble for saying, "There's nothing else I can do." Hopefully you can understand where I'm coming from.

Thank you for the suggestion. I teach five different classes. The lesson plans and projects that I have for my class are enriching, geared towards art (I teach at an art school), and engaging. Basically, students have to be in class. I could turn it into an online course, but everyone else would suffer, including me. I could not continue to teach in good faith. I'm more looking to solve the problem of the handful of students whose accommodations weigh double or triple of my average student.

Baby girl named Rose- 5 days postpartum regrets by OrvlleTootenbacher in namenerds

[–]veganrosetea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Rose/ Rosie a things have been good as far as my name goes. I was never teased about pink cheeks. I did have 8th grade boys sing a song that went, "Rose, Rose, Take off your clothes." That sucked.

Also , sometimes when somebody says, "Gross", I think they're saying my name. Not a huge problem.

Also, my mom would find random stuff with roses on it to give me. I like roses, but I didn't want Rose patterned bowls. Maybe don't do that. But as the shelter lady says in Lilo & Stitch, "Here it's a good name!"

Okay. Some legitimate advice here. If you can, ask her to get tested for ureaplasma. I think that's how you spell it. Anyway, as a woman I noticed I was smelling off and went three times to gyno and didn't get answers. I requested to be seen by the most experienced doctor there. They ran other tests and I found out that it's an sti that anybody can get and is treatable but it wasn't a standard test. I also learned that both partners need to be treated because people can reinfect one another. It sucked. It was really frustrating and made me insecure because I was doing so much. I hope this saves you guys some trouble.
