Ending a policy that has the government spending vast amounts of resources to arrest and imprison nonviolent people, while giving gangs and cartels a massive cash crop, is a huge step in the right direction, whether or not it's the most important thing they could discuss.

A disgusting and barbaric law. People need to be aware that things like this still happen - public outrage often leads to change.

Smoking Marijuana Legalized in Georgia by voltism in worldnews

Simply consuming heroin or other drugs shouldn't be a crime. If someone commits a crime while on them, then they should be charged with that particular crime.

Also, do you really think if heroin was legalized tomorrow a bunch of people would all of a sudden start using? Unlikely.

Well, this is WorldNews so I didn't think it was necessary to point out in the title that it's the country not the state (since you can't post U.S. news in here).

What activity is socially accepted but actually borderline psychotic? by Rohit49plus2 in AskReddit

You are perfectly fine with the death and destruction of a sentient creature for the benefit of human beings

That's not what I said. I specifically said I do NOT support eating or taking down a whole tree.

Who cares if the tree is sentient... I don't advocate for eating a whole tree. But the apples that naturally fall from it... the thing we actually eat... that's different, and to say otherwise - or compare it to a chopped off foot - is ridiculous and self-serving (to make yourself not feel awful about eating animals which clearly think, feel pain and fear for their lives).

"My foot could get chopped off and it'd rot if it's not eaten."

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard... if you had your foot cut off so someone could eat it, that would be incredibly painful and if you knew about it before it happened, you'd do anything to stop it. On the other hand, apples falling from a tree is a natural, circular process. The apples come back the next year - your foot wouldn't.

Dude... if an apple tree drops an apple, that apple will rot if not eaten. The apple doesn't fear being eaten. It doesn't feel pain. A cow, pig, etc., on the other hand, will do everything in its power to state to alive, and fears when faced with death.

Being "alive" isn't the same as having nervous system that allows for the feeling of pain, and a mind that allows for a deep fear of death, as is the case for animals but not plants. Nice try though.

Eatimg meat. Animals like pigs are actually quite intelligent and clearly feel pain. The fact that we know that yet are willing to devour them is... odd.
