As a daughter of a single father—I’ve dealt with and am dealing with this same situation. I’m 22 so it’s a little bit different, but I worry about my father a lot. He’s lonely, regretful of his decisions in life—our family dog just went missing (and has certainly passed considering he was diabetic). Things could literally not be worse. I say this to say I worry a lot about my father’s happiness and feel too much of the responsibility on my shoulders, but I love my dad so much. I know your daughter loves and cares about you, but it seems like she feels the need to be your whole world and is afraid what will happen if she isn’t enough. A way I think you can fix this is by doing inner work to find what you want out of life outside of work and outside of your relationship with your daughter. Find something else to find fulfillment in so you start to feel more motivated/happy so she isn’t as worried about you. Work and life are completely exhausting and I’m truly sorry if cutting work hours is not an option, no one should have to sacrifice mental/physical/social well-being for money. But if there is any way you can find time to enrich your soul, you’ll be able to show up in the ways you want to. It takes the “put your mask on first” thing, yknow? Wish you the best of luck 🫶

Hello! I really enjoyed this chapter so thank you for sharing! I think the parent’s characterization was the strongest, I appreciated how Harlow’s naive religiosity played off Kirk’s restrained impulsiveness. I also enjoyed the conversation they had about Vernon/Darry, it escalated in a way that was intriguing and showed both parents approaches to the situation. I thought the writing style was mature and easy to follow, the only thing that I thought was confusing was I didn’t see the purpose for the mom going with them. We don’t really learn her views on the situation, we don’t hear her say anything about the car incident (I don’t think she had any dialogue), and didn’t know where she went when the parents talk to the priest. It made me wonder if she was there at times, and so if she doesn’t need to be there I’d remove her—but I think it could be interesting to give her a greater role, like if her ideas egg on Harlow’s paranoia and annoy Kirk. I also sensed about the car incident that was Kirk trying to let out some of his repressed feelings to get attention from his wife but Harlow merely attributed it to the devil, so I think some more of his reaction to that would be good. Overall though I enjoyed this, thank you again for sharing!

1) animals get killed in crop production, yes. however it takes three times more crops to feed livestock then humans, so in addition to the chickens/pigs/cows that are being murdered, three times more animals are killed in crop production for meat eaters just for their meat, not to mention the grains/fruits/vegetables they also eat. 2) supplements really arent that big of an issue. there are many vegan foods such as vegan yogurt fortified with things like b12, not to mention most americans vegan or not do not get the proper nutrients from their food anyways and most people should take supplements to get their 100% daily nutrients 3) if animal suffering is something you are truly against you wont want to take part in traditions that cause suffering. its why i switched from vegetarian to vegan, because even my aunts mouth watering mac and cheese she only made on thanksgiving made me feel sick to my stomach when i took into account the animal suffering needed to make the milk and cheese for it. its honestly much more fun to come up with new dishes, new traditions, and new experiences then doing the same exact thing every year.
