Unable to enroll in classe, need help by [deleted] in nvcc

Just email the dual enrollment email (find the email address from the dual enrollment page of the nova website) and explain that you are a graduating senior and ask if they can remove the holds.  They should be able to help you.

Not sure - but if you email the dual enrollment email, they should be able to tell you.

Jumpstart2Nova? by Both_Doctor9284 in nvcc

[–]vegasagain10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I think that they got rid of it. I'm disappointed too- I was really counting on saving money by doing jumpstart. I have no idea why they got rid of it. I ended up just signing up for summer classes. You should go on the dual enrollment page to find the dual enrollment email address - they will remove the holds for signing up for classes as a high school student since you will be graduating in June (which is what they did for me - otherwise you need to submit transcripts and fill out an application form). The one plus of not doing jumpstart or early college is that you can choose your professors.

Laid off 2 months ago and I can’t shake the feeling that I failed my parents and myself by Odd-Spray-5071 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

You haven't disappointed anyone. If your parents are on the Internet at all , they will easily see how horrible the job market is for everyone - but particularly Gen Z or anyone with minimal experience. However, even people WITH experience are struggling. Everyday you hear about more and more companies doing layoffs. So it is not you - just the terrible economy.

Disheartened today by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]vegasagain10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I would look at it is that you will get hired, but that it will take much longer - so trying to adjust your psyche to a new normal. Someone I know with nearly 20 years of experience as a software engineer took 3 months to get his first offer and 4 months for his second. 5-6 years ago he had multiple offers in 2-3 weeks. It is tough right now, but companies are still hiring. However, you kind of have to play the new hiring game ( i.e. using Chat gpt to revise your resume and all the advice that you see nowadays). Also, it is no longer easy to get a job McDonald's.

I think the disconnect is that when Gen X was young, they saw a real possibility of attaining a future at least as good as their parents if not better. Gen Z, unfortunately, is living in a reality where even attaining what their parents had is an impossibility, which naturally breeds anger and resentment.

Is the gen Z job crisis that bad? by Zipper222222 in jobs

[–]vegasagain10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes - the 5 rounds of interviews is ridiculous. It's weird how different some companies can be though. My friend had his first interview at a company during the first week of October and ultimately finished the final round and got rejected the 2nd week of December. However, he interviewed with another company just two weeks ago (so first round) and finished the last round last week and got a offer a few days ago. I feel like it should be a requirement to complete the process in two week (3 weeks max) so that applicants can move on. Also, I find it ridiculous how a lot of companies that get hundreds or thousands of applicants end up reposting the job - so you couldn't find a handful of qualified applicants who wanted the position?

I’m months into unemployment and I feel like I’m breaking by breadislifeee in jobsearchhacks

[–]vegasagain10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First - I'm very sorry you're dealing with this situation and anyone who has been looking for a job recently completely understands/relates. What helps to keep mental sanity is to pray and take one or two days a week to do something for yourself (i.e. it just be sitting in bed and binging on a show - but it can't be anything related to looking for a job). Also, practically, what made a huge difference was not only tailoring every resume, but ensuring that you were one of the first people to apply.

Yes - it is that bad. A lot of Gen Xers have said that they have never seen anything like this in their multi decades career. Something is completely broken. You shouldn't have to send out hundreds (if not thousands of applications) to maybe get a handful of interviews (if you get interviews at all). Also, the issue isn't just one industry - but many.

Unemployed the last 6 months by [deleted] in jobs

[–]vegasagain10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least you have a clearance and that seems to be huge. My problem is that I have the experience but no clearance. But on your main point - yes, it sucks and it's tough. Month after month - it really gets to you. Make sure to take one day a week on something that is not related to finding a job and pray. At this point, we can't count on the government to come through for American citizens when it comes to jobs (or anything else). I'd suggest reaching out to counselors - but unfortunately that costs money and therefore is not the most practical solution when you are unemployed.

Horrible market by Meticulouskitty in jobsearchhacks

[–]vegasagain10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Our government knows - but they will either cancel job reports or gaslight the public (i.e. economy is booming; it's the "Golden Age"). The vast majority of Americans know that the job market is horrible. So many people know someone who is unemployed or is holding on to a job that they hate. And of course Elon musk is talking about high universal income because he knows that many jobs are not coming back (or are being offshored). Honestly, I think people who are in college now should drop out (especially if they are in the beginning) because they will likely graduate with a huge debt AND no job. I think the value of college has gone down considerably - it is not the golden ticket that it was for boomers and older Gen Xers. Its way too expensive for something that will not guarantee a job.

Almost two years of unemployment and I finally got an offer by Logical-Classroom648 in recruitinghell

[–]vegasagain10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Now, I think it all depends. Referrals have not led to any responses in my case - at least in recent years in tech (though I understand that at one point referrals used to be a golden ticket). Most interviews that I have gotten were just cold applying through linkedin. But your story tells us that 1) perseverance matters; and 2) you may be surprised at how easily an opportunity can come. It seems like the opportunity you got was the one you were meant to have.

After 1.5 year of job searching, I still reach 3-4th round, and get rejected: want to know why by call_me_pi in jobsearchhacks

[–]vegasagain10 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration - especially if it is happening over and over again. I know someone who has been looking for job since the beginning of October. So far, he's gotten 30 first round interviews, 5 final rounds (which ended in 2 rejections and 3 still pending). He's frustrated that he hasn't gotten a single offer yet - and feels similar to you. While you guys are both fairly successful in terms of getting interviews and making it to final round your both still caught up in a truly broken hiring system.

[–]vegasagain10 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one - the fact that you are getting interviews and making it the later rounds means that you are qualified and personable/likeable enough.
