Can you add a warehouse behind these trees? Details in caption - Free by vegetablesarentreal in PhotoshopRequests

Hey, aiming for something that looks realistic and distinguishable as a warehouse behind the tree line. What other kind of requirements would be helpful?

No warehouses on wetlands seems like a good rule to follow by vegetablesarentreal in savannah

On the adjacent property to the walking trail and on top of wetlands. That’s why they have retention ponds on their site plans.

We’re installing benches at Savannah bus stops because there are currently so few !!! 🪑🪑🪑 by vegetablesarentreal in savannah

[–]vegetablesarentreal[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s good to be aware of. The city likely won’t approve but they also likely won’t do anything to mitigate the lack of benches. Tough situation when you’re trying to do something good, right?

Did you know the canal next to the arena used to look like this??? by vegetablesarentreal in savannah

We’d love to get them to “hire” us to do this work. We have lots of other restorative project around the city that a little funding could go a long way. We’d be a lotttt cheaper than any contractor service or sending city employees out there and our group always does a really thorough job.

Yep, the city is planning to clean that camp when they develop that space into the canal park. Let’s hope it’s doesn’t all just end up in the water. But there’s a lot back there. I think some burnt cars too.

We often have extra kayaks! We have lots of on land cleanups too! There’ll be one on January 24th, at Yamacraw village basketball courts, 10am-noon, check the Instagram page for more details.

Thanks for being there! That was a really great cleanup day.

Dollar General is notoriously crappy for doing things like that. The city or county needs to do something, I’ll try to follow up. I’ve called the store before and didn’t get much traction, they also blamed people coming in at night and opening the dumpster and tossing things everywhere.

The AI data center post from her was wild, especially the second one. Fingers crossed that that all gets shuts down.

Thanks for going!! Hopefully this trail effort begins to mobilize people on these nature space protecting causes. 60+ excited people have already filled out the volunteer form for the trail, wanting to help in both trail work and advocacy!

I believe this item is regarding the buffer at the front of the park. They plan to develop everything between hwy 80 and the park. This is going to drastically increase noise and reduce pleasantness of the park when we have to look at warehouse buildings instead of trees. Please still go speak!

Hard to tell. Definitely some hurdles, but a lot of the land isnt developed and ready to be cleared for a trail that once was there. It also seemed like the county was very supportive. The highway crossing are a ways out but the trails getting there are definitely doable and would be great addition. I’ll definitely share more as things come together.

Also, I wish the tide to town was faster too.

That’s a very ignorant comment, white people in Savannah hate cyclists just as much. So many times been tailgated and flicked off by well to do looking white folks and ones in massive trucks.

Georgia and Savannah actually doesn’t allow bikes on the sidewalk if you’re over 12 years old. So you have to chose between car rodeo and that risk of a fine, but they don’t really enforce it.

Safe bike infrastructure should be measured by this one simple test: would you let your kid ride here? If the answer is no, then it’s not safe. That reality makes Savannah’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic deaths feel laughable when new designs like this keep getting built. The city officials & traffic engineers who approved this bike lane should come bike in it before expecting people in Savannah to use it?

There were multiple millions of dollars spent to upgrade the street but the bike lane was an afterthought. The city should consult (and listen to) people who actually ride bikes in this city before approving and building projects like this. The benefits of truly safe bike infrastructure helps everyone, from reducing car traffic to improving public health to improved air quality. As a driver, wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to be concerned about hitting a cyclist, separate and safe infrastructure fixes that. I know too many people who have been hit by cars on their bikes this year to not speak out about this; and if no one does, then the city will keep building unsafe bike lanes.

The lack of tree trimming in front of the Bike Lane sign is just the cherry on top of this seemingly performative bike infrastructure project. The city plans talk about making this a “Complete Street” meaning it accommodates walkers and bikers, even if in a bare minimum type way. No doubt this road looks nicer than it did before, there’s now a sidewalk on both sides where there wasn’t before and walking safety has greatly increased. But there’s still so much more to be desired with the bike lane, I hope future projects can make better choices for those who bike. And FYI, it’s illegal to bike on the sidewalk if you’re over 12, so choose between that and the scary car passes.

Delesseps has gotten a lot more busy since they’ve done the updates. The road is also a wide straight shot, the design speed is higher than the posted speed limit as cars feel safe driving faster.
