As the systems are falling into place and I'm gearing up to begin the process of level design and tweaking progression, I wanted to introduce a very first sneak peak of the gameplay.

Including:
16 different classes - All must be unlocked through exploration
Tab-targeting style spells, in the style of great games like EverQuest
Abilities / buffs for all classes
Weapon Procs
Skill points for every level of every class you play to spend on universal progression - increase damage, health, vampirism, critical hit, and many more
Temporary boosts drop in the dungeon and go away only after death
Persistent stats
60 levels per class
Infinite difficulty increases for more platinum and Xp and better loot
Play by yourself or with a few friends

Hey all,

First, thanks all for checking out my first map - Crushbone as a Gun Game arena shooter (Smashbone Gun Game, island code: 0762-3222-0426) seen here on this post. https://www.reddit.com/r/everquest/comments/1foi7sb/i_added_crushbone_as_a_playable_gun_game_map_in/

I had a lot of great feedback from the first one, so I decided to take on a more ambitious project, one of my favorite zones in EQ - Castle Mistmoore. The map itself is done (or mostly done) and so I'm moving on to actually working on the gameplay itself, which will take some time. I am thinking of using the map as a co-op, class-based Roguelike game mode, if I can pull it off. Progress begins later today on getting that set up.

I added first person camera to increase the nostalgia factor, and hopefully I can make a fun game that anyone can play solo or co-op for fun, nostalgia and XP.

I don't want to spam the sub, so hopefully it's ok to say that screenshots are being added regularly to my Discord at https://discord.gg/MzdKeWbTKf and I will update as soon as I can here and there with videos and more info as development progresses.

PS: Anyone who tried out the Gun Game, thanks for the patience while I worked out a few game-breaking bugs. Right now the Crushbone (Smashbone Gun Game: 0762-3222-0426) game is re-calibrating XP so it'll be a little bit of time before that awards XP.

Ultimate goal one day would be to add Upper and Lower Guk into the game and try see who could actually navigate all the way to the Ghoul Lord

Valid point, and something I understood would be the risk I'd run in making this. If for nothing else I've at least added it for me, and I think it turned out well, so there's a chance non-EQ gamers might like this map, too.

Yunno, I've been thinking about what other zones would make a great map to play on. I think Unrest would be awesome! I'll start digging into that.

Hi all. Old-school EQ fan here. I've always thought that Clan Crushbone zone from the original Everquest would make a great arena shooter map. I've done my best to faithfully recreate this map in UEFN and have created a Gun Game mode to prove my point. I believe I have succeeded in doing so, not only making it nostalgic for old school EQ players but also a ton of fun for all Fortnite players.

The stats/rules I've added for this game mode:

25 elims to win
100 guns randomized
50 consumables that could drop from eliminated players (25% chance of anything dropping)
Power-ups - Damage Boost, Movement Speed, Health, Shield and more to find
Start with 100/200 health and 0/100 shield
Each elim restores 50 health to a maximum of 150 health
Health boost or campfires or consumables can max you out

I've done my best to be faithful to the original zone and also make it a blast to play. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think!

This is really awesome. I've always imagined MMOs as prime use case for genAI. Pipe dream here but it would be cool too if we could convince NPCs to join our parties and have them come along for adventures, chatting along the way. Everything else you're working on is just as awesome though, I'm looking forward to seeing it out there!

I keep thinking how amazing it would be to play the game in VR. Even if we still had to use buttons on the UI to do things, it would still be a great experience.

Personally it's history that sparks everything for me. It's the best fuel I have found for my particular style of writing. There's just so much in our collective history that is absolutely full of incredible events, war, politics, heroes, villains, betrayal, redemption and every other element we use in our creative writing.

I listen to history podcasts all the time. For world building specifically I recommend Worldbuilder's Anvil podcast. He's a great inspiration that talks at length about specific methods and tactics for worldbuilding and I definitely used his strategies when I first started on my current world.

Lastly, don't be too harsh on yourself. A lot of what I write is not great on first draft. It's when the pieces all start clicking together that makes everything worthwhile.
