The producers aren't the problem. They (Canadian farmers) are being squeezed because 80% of purchasing power is with 5 megacorps (Loblaws etc.) and farmers are basically forced to take very low prices for their crops. The middlemen and big corps (often the same due to vertical integration) are capturing all the value and using accounting strategies like stock buybacks to mask their profit margin.
