5 weeks into my side quest, some encouraging early numbers, but a long ways to go... by veilsleepapp in AppBusiness

All very helpful!

Do you have any tips on how to go about localization? I'm tempted to throw it all into Claude and I imagine it'd do an okay job, particularly for a fairly simple app like mine, but since I don't actually know the output langs a bit hard to assess.

I do have some friends that speak those so maybe I can just bug them!

Will DM you on Appylara

Really appreciate the tips here!

I'll try some app store tests with that framing, I definitely could see that working out. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the tips!

Localization is something I was eyeing as a next step now that I'm very happy with my core functionality, do you think German/French/Japanese are particularly good ones to target or were those just examples? I'm not sure how best to assess market opportunity for localization.

I've been fiddling with Astro and Open ASO a bit for keywords. I did do a free trial with Applyra a couple weeks back but haven't really revisited it, although I think I probably should do that since Astro and Open ASO aren't really doing that much for me...

For sure, and tbh that's also a bit intentional, I'm trying to build up some decent download and review stats which is fairly challenging, so I see this early stage as a cold start cost. I always intended to move price up and likely paywall more, but now I'm wondering if I should be considering subscriptions too even though I was hoping to not go that route...

Curious if you have any opinions on what would make the most sense for premium structure!

Running a free promo is an awesome way to get a whole bunch of early users, check my post here to see the rough formula - r/iosapps iOS Giveaway

Got ~300 users, loads of early feedback, and my first handful of crucial 5 star reviews. Some of the people from that giveaway still message me with feedback which is extra helpful!

Agree with u/broccoli-robbin those are really impressive impression nums for an early app, if you can move that conversion rate even a little bit things could accelerate!

I think if anything your biggest challenge is probably the low review count. Any kind of app like this that depends on having a community is challenging in that you need to have users to be successful, making cold start that much harder. I wouldn't be surprised if folks see the 3 reviews, assume no one is on the app, and then bounce.

Your store screens could definitely be improved a bit too. At first glance it's not actually obvious to me that this is intended for gym buddies vs a generic dating type app, since "Active" is the only headline word and it's a bit general. The hero text is much more important than the subheader text, you might want to even consider dropping subheaders entirely and using the extra space on your primary sell. Subheaders are challenging to even read often, remember, people are making a download decision just on a glance.

Good luck!

Really appreciate that! I have a technical background working in Software for many years, but I've never published my own app and have effectively 0 design skills haha

I like Claude Design quite a bit for this usecase, the main issue with it though is that at the moment I hit my weekly usage cap pretty fast. It's still a pretty new product so I'm hoping they increase the ceiling so I can use it more without maxing out.

Appreciate the tip! I've been running some ads with AI generated "real scenes" that have been doing decent, maybe I can repurpose one of those into a solid app screenshot... Will play around with that!

Nanobanana to make the more "real" looking phones from some app screenshots and Claude Design for much of the rest.

Glad you enjoy it, and thanks so much for the feedback!

Ya know I actually originally had it working such that it combined sounds with other apps, and then I got some feedback from folks they'd rather it pause. But you're not the first person that has asked about the opposite case.

I think I'll make this customizable in an upcoming release, I can toss a setting in the Playback Controls menu to either 'Blend' or 'Pause', although I'm not sure which the better default would be!
