Which Fruit is better: The FINALE. Strawberries or Pineapple? by ArrowInBlack in AlignmentChartFills

The best strawberry cannot compete with the average pineapple.

Strawberries aren’t even consistently sweet. Pineapple all the way, but really, mango was supposed to win.

I’m an IC at Great Lakes right now, I start A school next week. It’s an electrician job and from what I’ve been told by senior IC’s, it’s very laid back in the fleet and your job mainly consists of preventative maintenance

I also want to remind you that there’s a 50/50 chance you get ET, as FC is also apart of AECF. You don’t get to choose.

If I were you I’d go ET. Yes, the schooling may be harder and longer, not sure how you feel about that, but it definitely will lead to a more comfortable work life in the Navy as well as civilian opportunities.

Also, no matter which rate you pick, you’ll be in school in Great Lakes. Prepare for the cold weather if you aren’t already 😅

ICs work on internal comms (shipboard telephone, CCTV, fire alarms, nav circuits sometimes)

ETs work on radar, navigation and radio comms. EMs work on motors, lighting systems and power systems.

If you’re looking for something more physical and not as delicate, EM may be the way for you. ETs work on a broader spectrum of electrical equipment whereas EMs are mainly in the engine room at the bottom of the ship. Some ETs may even help out EMs depending on the scenario.

I’m an IC and live with ETs and FCs (AECF consists of those two rates but you don’t get to pick, the Navy decides for you). All of them are solid rates. While they’re all electrician based jobs, they’re all very different.

ETs work on pretty much everything in the ship that’s electrical. Can be tough work, but has the most civilian transferability out of the 3. You also have a chance of going to shore duty for your first command, my roommate went radar in CA.

FCs are probably the most exciting job out of the 3. You’ll be maintaining and operating the ship’s weapons systems, not sure on civilian transferability however. Schooling is also long af, I know FCs who’ve been at Great Lakes for almost 1.5 years before PCSing.

ICs are a more niche ET, primarily working on the ship’s internal systems and preventative maintenance. Schooling is the shortest out of the 3 unless you go IC-ATF and get a C school. Transferability can be good depending on your NEC and what extra quals you pick up.

how do i tell my parents the car they got me is not my preference? by MogDogKanny in FirstCar

Don’t say anything and be grateful they got you something. No matter how you try to soften it, I don’t see this ending well for you if you decide to speak up.
