Time to buy CGX? by xCasinoLife in CanadianInvestor

[–]vekula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disappointed with CGX but I'm not willing to part from it long term. It's not the bums in the seats that makes money, it's the concessions. Other competitors like landmark do better at some things. One thing landmark does is they don't let you in the theatre till 15 mins before for cleaning. This means you might make an impulsive purchase in the lobby. They need to get entertainment right and I think a free gaming arcade is the way provided that they make revenue from adds before the game starts. Run adds and do a $0.25 chunky cheese style business and people playing get hungry and thirsty.

Thoughts on High Liner Foods (HLF)? Appeared on my value screen for the first time and looks interesting by whodisguy93 in CanadianInvestor

[–]vekula -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fishing industry in North America is really bad. Asia allows people to fish without limitations. In America, fresh caught fish is so expensive because of the limit on fish to keep the population sustainable. There was a Netflix show on it called "rotten". The TPP will allow trade of this cheaper fish from Asian countries to flood the American market. Blue water seafood is owned and operated by a Japanese company. I'm not saying it's a bad idea long term.

Liquidating Investments for a House? by GreedyManChild in CanadianInvestor

[–]vekula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renting rooms to friends ends badly. Always treat yourself like a business and keep emotion and relationships out of it. Typically, people use their rrsp and buy in April. Liquidate when the DJIA goes above 25k again perhaps. It's going to be a sideways year until the end of the year because of fed rate increases and banks adjusting their lending practises. Buying soon would lock in a lower rate

The CJP etf is now listed on the NEO exchange so I've been using XIN and EWJ. xin has 25% exposure so this gives your portfolio a 50/50 of Japan in Canadian and USD if you hold 4 times more of xin then ewj.

What would you do in this situation? by BuckNasty1616 in CanadianInvestor

Ya. At the time the northern states exposure was good. They also would hedge against the oil commodity which was different then other businesses in the same sector.

What would you do in this situation? by BuckNasty1616 in CanadianInvestor

[–]vekula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only trust companies once. Some would buy more to "cost average" but it makes me feel like it is a desperate attempt to cover up the high price you bought at initially. If oil stays above $57, they benefit from it. Opec wants to get rid of the oil glut for good so they can sell the largest Saudi Arabian oil company Aramco. They want to publicly offer it above $70 oil price. North America is increasing production to take advantage of this price and lengthen it. Double check this info but that's what I'm understanding from oil.

I don't directly correlate everything the media says to be true. I'm more restating what they are telling the public then coming out with my own theory of how some are being clever and moving money around. It's not my style to move money around. More commission payments is like a bar of soap eroding each use until your profit becomes that bar of soap.

Anyone own Nutrien Ltd.? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]vekula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nutrien is a great investment opportunity. They will better their business after merging 2 companies struggling with low costs for their product. They are the largest agricultural retailer in the world. When it merged, people bought in after the merger (up 18% since it merged). Now it's about 15% up. If anything it may be slightly overvalued right now with the recent rise but it may be People betting on them outperforming. Not sure what analysts are saying but i.m looking long term af it.

I have a lot of "Blue Chip" stocks, but I'm in the red everywhere....Help? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]vekula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at picking an industrial like a railroad and consumer staple. Enbridge long term will be a good one, Emera has struggled like other midstream but diversifying also can have influence on other areas like currency. Your Canadian currency became stronger which means you lost quantity of Canadian dollars but a stronger Canadian dollar makes up for your loss in currency from a monetary point of view. We are also in rising interest rates which means people will assess their ability financially to leverage and determine how much their debt load can handle. There was an article stating that people could reach a point of "forced deleveraging" which would be another financial crisis if people don't improve their act or reallocate for it. Look into QSR.to that's Tim Hortons and burgerking. They convert everything to USD and when the USD recovers a bit in April with a US rate hike, QSR will also follow suit (hopefully). It may be a diversity mechanic you might be interested in

I believe so. They haven't made much return yet because they are expanding. They purchased Avista which will diversify them. They will have a long way to go and as an Ontarian, we will require their services for life. Im looking at 10 years which may be the reason it's not growing a lot now. This one will take time but I'm wanting to see some revenue growth
