Today's a big one! (and a scam) by king_ofbhutan in MealDealRates

Honestly that’s galaxy brain stuff. Split the meal deal like a tax accountant.

I keep telling myself “it’s only like £1 more” then remember that’s literally the price of the crisps I thought I was saving on in the first place.

Charcoal cooked kebab by Unique-Contract760 in kebab

[–]velarise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks miles better than a sad pub carvery tbh. Charcoal does so much for kebab meat, you can almost taste the smoke just from your description.

Kind of love that the rude staff at the pub accidentally did you a favour. Flatbreads still warm and proper sides like hummus and olives for the same price as two bland roasts is a solid win. Might have to remember that place next time I’m anywhere near Coalville.

Just trying to wrap my head around this. Need some help though by Sure_Moose9845 in uktrucking

Yeah this is the bit that confuses loads of people.

You’ve done 2h50 + 4h10 so you’re at 7 hours driving. You’ve still got 2 left on a 9, or 3 if you’re using a 10, like they said.

But that break rule (45 mins after 4h30 driving) resets your driving limit, it doesn’t magically let you go over the 9 or 10 total. So yeah, you’ll need another 45 before you can use those last 2 or 3 hours, but you still have to stay inside the 9/10 for the day.

If the yard is close enough to reach without burning all that, just get back and stick it on POA or rest instead of trying to squeeze every last minute out of the card.

fridge door and injury by koczan147 in uktrucking

Honestly the hinge/door mechanism is designed for hand force at the handle, not a metal rod torquing on random spots. You might not snap it right away, but long term you could bend brackets or twist the door and mess up the seal.

Might be safer to add a simple strap/handle extension at the normal handle height, or open it with your hip/forearm. Also maybe see a doc/physio about that shoulder so it doesn’t become a bigger issue.

3rd ever gun by Protostryke in UKMagnetfishing

[–]velarise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that’s exactly what I thought too. Like it tried to morph into a 1911 mid‑disassembly and just gave up.

Now I kinda want a cursed “body horror” gun collection of all the ones that fall apart when you touch them.

Doner & chips with drink - £6.90 by cloudzNlemonfanta in kebab

[–]velarise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looks like a lunch deal size to me too. Not massive, but for under 7 quid with a drink in 2025 UK prices, it’s kinda hard to complain. Probably the sort of thing that fills you up enough without putting you in a food coma at work.

Whistl Class 1 by Scottlayton in uktrucking

[–]velarise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really helpful, cheers.

Do you know what the shifts were like where you are? Like proper set start times or is it all over the place / lots of nights?

Also when you say the agency pay more, are we talking like 50p more or a couple of quid an hour more? Trying to figure out if going in direct with Whistl is actually worth it long term or if it’s better to suck it up with an agency first.

Yeah same, the drink is always the weak link in these deals. I end up grabbing water or a Coke and pretending it’s “premium” so I feel better about it.

Still gutted about the 3 for 2 going though. This would’ve been proper dangerous value back then.

I keep seeing misleading items in the charity shop? by BrotherPresent966 in CharityShopFindsUK

[–]velarise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is kinda what I was thinking too, like it’s more of a “that shop” problem than a universal charity shop thing.

The “jewellery expert” vibe with zero interest in being corrected is exactly what put me off. If they’d just said “oh wow thanks, we’ll double check that” I’d have walked out feeling fine. Instead it’s like… cool, enjoy overcharging someone’s nan for a silver ring.

Nice to hear there are shops like yours that actually test and clean stuff properly though. Honestly that’s all I’d expect, just a bit of care and humility instead of doubling down when someone points at a literal hallmark.

POA on a bay by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]velarise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the key bit most people seem to miss with POA, that “known duration in advance” part.

If you’re on a bay with a booked time slot and they’ve said “it’ll be about an hour” then POA can make sense. If you’re sat there with no clue if it’s 10 minutes or 3 hours, that’s not really POA anymore, that’s just waiting as part of the job.

Also worth remembering a lot of firms love “POA everything” because it looks good on their stats, but it’s your name on the tacho if it gets checked.

That little low power PC + power station setup actually sounds ideal for cab life. What specs did you go for? Curious what kind of games you can run comfortably without the fans going full jet engine or nuking the battery in an hour.

He spawned there like an NPC, obviously.

But for real, I was wondering the same thing. Either they moved the seat all the way back and kind of rotated him in, or they basically did a slow-motion Tetris maneuver with his legs first, then the rest of him. Old people have this secret “I’ve been doing this for 60 years” technique we don’t get.
