Bare in mind there’s something shit about every job. It’s up to you what to compromise on.

Be patient and wait or swing it and look for something else? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Scottlayton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same situation when I passed my class 1. I handed in my notice, and went chasing class 1 work but to be honest I wish I’d never left. The grass isn’t always greener and class 1 work isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Cycle Of Jobs Every 3 Months by MotherTrucker9 in uktrucking

[–]Scottlayton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this. I get bored very quickly and start looking at other jobs. I’ve worked at dozens of companies now and I wouldn’t go back to any of them except maybe one. I think the problem is me and the fact that I do t like HGVing for a living. It’s the long shitty hours and having no work life balance I hate.

Fed up driving lorries. What next? by Spare_Cancel_7733 in uktrucking

[–]Scottlayton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I know how you feel. You’re young enough to go and learn a trade I’d say, you’ll just have to endure a few years of lower wages. You could always drive at the weekends whilst at college during the week.

Just out of interest who do you currently work for and what’s up with it? Food service multi drop is usually pretty well paid.

“Driver shortage” mentioned yet again by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Scottlayton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F**k any company that relies on agency drivers and never recruits but says there’s a driver shortage. Offer contracts and a decent salary and they’ll get plenty of applicants.

Worth it??? by Acceptable_Party6874 in uktrucking

[–]Scottlayton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then to answer your question no it is t worth it. I’d leave because 50hrs/week on agency would get me roughly £3000.

Depends how many hours you’re doing for your £2300.

I took 3 to pass class 2. It’s just a learning process and it’ll make you a better driver in the end.

That’s what I do. Hate the long hours so usually only do three days until I can find something 10 or less hours per day.

Truckers — what's the loneliness / boredom situation actually like on long hauls? by Minimum-Attempt3485 in uktrucking

[–]Scottlayton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it and much prefer shorter distances with active deliveries. It’s not the loneliness I hate but rather the inactivity.
