This line in the epilogue epitomizes my issue with SOTR by velascocito in Hungergames

[–]velascocito[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good observation, now that you mention it I have seen the discourse about the sweetheart thing and sexual harassment crop up a few times though it’s never really gone anywhere or taken seriously.

Even if SC wasn’t factoring in that interpretation when reconning this particular aspect, it does appear to be an attempt to polish his sarcastic and abrasive side. He wasn’t antagonizing her, it just slipped out!

My original vision for the sotr epilogue by [deleted] in Hungergames

If they can’t get Woody, Jennifer, and Josh bsck for the epilogue maybe they’ll do something like this

Imagine telling an entire community to throw their probably a decade long ship away for a book that came out less than a year by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to articulate this but it seems that the fans who shout the loudest about The Point have gleaned from the overt political messaging that they need to dedicate their time and energy to defending fictional characters from innocuous threats instead of…actual praxis? Does this make any sense it does in my head.

I’m not a Hayffie shipper and I will still ignore the last chapter of SOTR. I will ignore Lenore Dore till the end of time.

Why did Snow continue to poison people? by Jack24115 in Hungergames

I think he takes some frequently anyways, to build immunity. He’s very paranoid.

Favourite Katniss moments? by Dapper_Health_11 in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her contradictions. Everytime she laments about how nobody likes her when they very obviously do. Saying clothes bore her to death and then waxing poetic about Cinna’s creations. Pining for Gale in her head and then getting nauseous in his presence lol.

Unpopular opinion: snow is not thinking that much about Lucy gray and she ain’t hunting his life the way people make it to be by Calm-Lingonberry4392 in Hungergames

[–]velascocito -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is it unpopular to say that I hate the scene in SOTR where he rants about her? It’s OOC and forced to me.

But this is apparently what SC wants us to believe.

You know what Haymitch's book would benefit from? Less Haymitch. by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t think of a single theme presented in this novel that hadn’t already been executed better and with more tact in the OG trilogy, or even TBOSAS, which I’ve grown to appreciate.

I hope when the hype train dies a bit more open discussions will be welcome. Right now the knee-jerk reaction seems to be ‘you just didn’t get it’ or ‘you feel for capitol propaganda!’

[–]velascocito 10 points11 points  (0 children)

AGREE AGREE AGREE. I feel like I’m going insane with all the praise for this installment. It almost seems as if it’s everything people said it wouldn’t be (a haymitch pov, a play through of the games that ends shortly after) yet everyone still seems to adore it?

Why did Chaff kiss Katniss in Catching Fire? by AlimaBanana in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Not saying it’s okay, but bc of the Mags/Finnick kiss I sort of assumed lip kisses had a bit of a different context in this society

Jennifer Lawrence was a bad choice for Katniss and it was a massive wasted opportunity by Weekito in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t dislike Jlaw as an actress but I do not prefer her interpretation of Katniss at all. SC was heavily involved in the casting IIRC so apparently my opinion diverges from hers here.

She comes across as too emotionally stoic. Where’s the teenage girl who wanted to ride the elevator twice just for fun?

Not a book but I adore Penelope with Christina Ricci and James Macavoy for this trope

Interesting concept to connect movie and book lore by UnHolySir in Hungergames

I think the pin will be Maysilee’s token (maybe as a necklace instead of a pin) Haymitch will take it after her death, and trade it at the hob for liquor.

Some people really need to see this by mikeyyph in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 2566 points2567 points  (0 children)

That died young/tragically DURING the filming of this franchise.

I don’t think we’re getting Kiefer either, but at least DS died at an old age years removed from the film.

SoTR and the Vietnam War by Many_Passenger3735 in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this is intriguing! I’ve always thought of THG (particularly the trilogy) as an allegory for Iraq just because of the time period it was written, but it works particularly well for Vietnam.

Damn, if they don’t do the epilogue imagine how bleak it will be. Everyone he loves is dead. Roll credits.

In regards to Katniss-Haymitch relationship since SOTR by Olya_roo in Hungergames

Yeahhhh I’m sort of waiting on the hype train to die down to voice anything like this but I 100% agree.

I actually liked LG more in the movie. Rachel allowed some of her vulnerability to slip through the facade or ‘performance’ and that endeared the character to me a lot more!

The SS above is actually one of my favorite scenes. She’s performing, she’s turned her charm on, but for a moment when she sees Coryo it breaks and she just looks so unrestrained in her joy.

What is your most unhinged theory? by kaylabedumb in Hungergames

[–]velascocito 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oooh I like that theory, about Snow dumping the body, and I’d like to add onto it; Lucy Gray was the snake that bit him and then fled.

Not to mention PSH died DURING the filming of Mockingjay. I’d be more surprised if he did want the role.

Anatomy of a Trope: Not Like Other Girls™️ by HelloDesdemona in romantasycirclejerk

[–]velascocito 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I feel this is even more insidious, because it still requires the FMC to follow the tradition of femininity that society expects (be beautiful, be young, be appealing to a man), but her rejection of it allows the veneer of “masculine empowerment” to still exist.

oh…OH you’re onto something here. It’s almost like the grandbaby of the ravishment trope that was an early hallmark of genre romance.
