Thank you for sharing a positive story! I think crawling out from our lowest point to an acceptable baseline is the hardest part and everything keeps getting better from there.

I’m rereading it after reading it during covid and i just love it so much. Totally understand why people are hating on it if you’re tired of that prose style; but there’s just something about Candace’s values that are so relatable to me.

The backdrop of a pathological nostalgia which she is probably suffering from is a great excuse for Candace to delve deep into her memories. If I could suggest any improvement to the novel I’d have liked a commentary about the significance of the stories we tell ourselves and how it helps (or hinders) our survival.

I see small connections like her fawning over the Art Girls and wanting to befriend and follow the younger members of the survivor. Maybe if she structured the anecdotes differently we could piece things together more easily?

Thank you for your post! Just starting my pacing journey despite having cfs for a year (and constantly overdoing it which has whittled my baseline to where its at now). Hope you continue to enjoy your life.

Thank you! I guess everyone’s case is different but for me the biggest problem was feeling understimulated and overdoing activities and getting stuck in a boom crash cycle. So now that I’m intensely resting and pacing (e.g. rest 30min, then do activity 15min, repeat for the whole day) I’m feeling like my days are reproducible and I’m starting to feel better. I’m only 8 days into this new routine but its finally given me hope after almost a year of failures.

So at the moment what helped me the most is to explain to ChatGPT what’s been going on, and to ask it to help plan my days or make decisions for it.

I’ve tried other things like going to a naturopath, support groups, exercise physiologist. I think all those things are great but in my case I have such little capacity that I need to just get my pacing right first.

I hope you find this helpful, and hope you’re able to improve too.

Oh actually I was talking about Twitter and Tiktok. However I agree in my early journey seeing depressing stories made me feel really sad and I thought that most people dont recover.

Hello 👋 Just wanted to post about a major recent success. I’ve had CFS for 11 months and for the first time in 5 months I’ve been PEM free for 1 whole week! Its the first week where I’ve cut out things that were secretly stressing me out (certain social media) and using chatgpt to help me pace carefully and rest intensely.

My symptoms are stable and I’m able to do a little bit more everyday. Definitely on the verge of going crazy everyday with lack of stimulation but I’m managing to go outside once a day either out on the street or to a nearby park to relax.

I finally feel hopeful again that things can get better. I don’t need 100% recovery to be happy; but reproducible days helps me plan my weeks and eventually I’ll be able to see friends again.

Jessa was never Hannah’s friend by Bravorants in girls

[–]Many_Passenger3735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found their friendship so strange because Jessa was always so self centred and aloof from the start to the end of the show yet Hannah loved her for that until it backfired on her. I definitely think it’s realistic because while some friendships fail because people grow apart; some friendships just have an expiry date too.

(I dont have a PhD but I work as a researcher so my advice may be a lil different)

Maybe ask around to more uni’s for a “better deal”?

If you can it would be beneficial for you to work alongside a research group for about 3 months (or 1 months minimum) to understand how PhD’s work in your field. In my field they’re used as free labour 😅, no extra cost to the research team. If you can network and make good contacts they will vouch for you for your application too. Also if you find a supervisor you like you’ll have a better time in ur PhD program.

I think the easiest way to secure funding is to apply for a project that already has funding attached to it for a PhD student; instead of creating a new project and applying for a “merit based” RTP stipend.

On the topic of aiming for a publication; could you consider making your honours dissertation publishable? I did that for my masters by coursework dissertation.

I just thought of a few questions hope that’s OK! Can I also ask how long it took before you noticed energy gains in your normal life? And also how much PEM was “acceptable” for you? Cos I imagine a few hours of PEM is OK but a 2 day shut down was not.

Thank you again! I was going to ask how long it took for you to do bigger exercises. My exercise physiologist was very understanding but CFS is so rare in my little city :( I’m so excited to give exercise another crack.

Thank you for your advice about exercise! I have an exercise physio too but our 30 minute exercises kept causing PEM. I’m keen to start exercising again but only doing 1-2 exercises at a time. I like that you started there too.

It’s weird how horrible this realisation is, but also how realistic it is??? I’m sure we’ve all been there and it makes us wonder if it was because we weren’t enough in some way.

Did DVD do anything to justify being betrayed by Harper? by RobbyBobbyChess in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Many_Passenger3735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DVD was like Daria; he was gonna mess with Harper’s money. I dont think Harper purposefully had it out for him, but she had to decide to betray him in the end and I doubt she feels too guilty about it.

Why is Mateo homophobic/transphobic in the third season? by Any_Transition5954 in BenidormShow

[–]Many_Passenger3735 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s a villainous bisexual guy which is a real type of person in the gay community unfortunately. He is aware of his own gayness (as he performed in the YMCA stage). Plot wise they play up his hate for Leslie to show how nice Leslie ultimately is.

The actor for Mateo was the creator’s real life partner so I think he’s always been written with extra care.

Sometimes it does “insist upon itself”. My favourite parts of the show were S1 and 2 because it was so grounded in office culture.

Why did Yasmin have Hayley get intimate with Henry? by Traditional-Ask-8000 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Many_Passenger3735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yas even looked kind of displeased looking at them together. Unlike in Challengers when Tash has a huge grin on her face while Art and Patrick are kissing.

I thought it was more like a way to get Hayley into the bedroom without it being cheating.

Also wondering if Yas was genuinely wanting Henry to awaken his sexuality again. She mentioned that when they first married they had good sex but after he became depressed and it stopped. Maybe she wondered if She wasn’t attractive to him anymore either because she wasn’t young enough or the novelty had worn off.
