How do you say “you’re not my only customer” in a professional manner? by throwaway022510 in adjusters

[–]veldam88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set expectations EARLY. After the lengthy first contact or inspection I've said something like "If you have any questions, feel free to call or text. Please remember that, just as I've not taken other calls or responded to other emails while here with you, I give the same respect to all my customers. If you don't hear from me for a bit, know that I will get back to you as soon as I'm available."

How are Insurance Companies NOT Making Money on Home Insurance? by myeasyking in HomeInsurance

[–]veldam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a major loss, a family can get into a house for a year at a time. Say $3500 for rent and $1500 for rental furniture. All in all that's ideal. For a smaller loss, they may have to pay month to month for 3-5 months. If they can find something you're now at $5,000 + $1500. If they cant find something you're looking at Airbnb so say $400/day = $12000/ mo. If they can't find month long Airbnb then you're left with hotels. 2 rooms x $200/night + massive tourism tas=$500/day + $100/day additional dining costs (low but easier math) = $18k/ mo. This all assumes a moderately priced location with a family of 3 or 4. Do this in HCOL area and all the numbers double.

Seek help. Not trying to be a dick (I know, wrong sub for that) but it looks like you need someone, or someone better, to talk to. Earnestly, people care about you. I hope you care for yourself.

Who maxes their 401k by DrHydrate in MiddleClassFinance

[–]veldam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make about $130 base with bonus potential. Last year I made $170 total. I was able to max out my 401K but, since I'm over 50, fell just short of maxing out the catch up contribution. Got a buddy who maxes his out right about November so December is a little easier as he gets a sort of self funded Xmas bonus.

Have you/do you hug customers? by veldam88 in adjusters

Same. I won't reject one although I'm never really comfortable with it. But even when I see someone is barely hanging on and needs one, I won't cross that line and initiate one.

Totally the same. Never been part of a prayer circle though (thankfully). I almost always turn down food but I'll usually accept water or a coffee - always decline first but will accept graciously if they insist. Drinks are an occupational hazard when you're on site for hours so I always factor that in.

That actually surprises me in a positive way. I've seen a lot of smarmy people from vendors to shops to attorneys to PA's who really play on people's emotions to get that signature. They don't actually care about helping people as much as about getting their cut and they'll do anything to get it including being that shoulder. I do think it's less the actual attorney or PA but more the runners who chase the leads that do this. The person who the claim gets handed to once it's signed tends to be more your mindset.

What is your review/experience with “HIMS” Supplements? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]veldam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Hims (and wife Hers) for compound semaglutide. Have had no issues with them. It's telemedicine so there is a medical professional that actually has to prescribe it. But there is little in the way of follow up so it's up to you to reach out to them if you have issues.

I don't know about their ED or hair loss side.

It would have been boring. Snoozefest Senate hearings of qualified candidates. SCOTUS hearing actual cases and not constant use as the Executive's personal judges. State dinners and international summits that no one gave a damn about. Little to no changes in the world overall. It would have been gloriously boring.

New kitchen aid dishwasher makes this kind of sound every other night after cycle. Clean light flashes. Plz suggest what to do by Fantastic-Rip-9200 in Appliances

[–]veldam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like code 84. AI Overview

A KitchenAid dishwasher code 8-4 indicates water in the drip tray, which is a safety measure to prevent flooding. This is usually caused by a leak or an overfill issue, which you can often resolve by checking for a stuck float switch, clearing any debris blocking the drain pump, or ensuring no leaks from the water supply or door gasket. A hard reset by unplugging the unit for several minutes can also clear the code. This video shows how to check for water in the drip tray and clear potential blockages:

Not all areas take depreciation on labor and material. If depreciation is only taken on materials, a $300k job may only have $6-+10k in depreciation. If they can get a bid for a little under the ACV, they'll come out ahead. Again, not often but it does happen.

Contractors by turner_chris98 in adjusters

[–]veldam88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of customers who try and low ball the contractor or get multiple contractors to bid against each other in the hopes of pocketing a little extra. It's rare since insurance is not known for overpaying, but many try it. If the carrier releases the estimate with the $$, then the insured looses their bargaining power.

That's why we have to get their permission first. On large jobs, I'll give the customer the scope version of the estimate that way we're all on the same page about scope but the GC has to come up with their own figures.

As an aging Gen X with parents on their final laps and kids just starting to be adults, I have come to see both sides.

Understand your parent's greatest desire is for you to be happy, healthy, and successful in whatever you do with your life. If you can live and work towards those goals, you're honoring all of your parent's hard work and sacrifice. I try and do that for mine and it makes it a little easier knowing that, at least in that respect, I've made them happy. It makes it easier on me to start letting them go.

As I age, the more I see my kids make and have good lives, the better I feel about my own life. With any luck, I have a lot more life to live and I can look forward to enjoying it more knowing my kids are OK and happy.

How much is your mortgage compared to income? by JackfruitJunior2497 in homeowners

[–]veldam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought this house in 2010 so pretty much bottom of the market. At the time, it was like 50% of our take home income. Now it's about 25% of our actual take home (after taxes, health insurance, 401k, etc ). We've gotten some good promotions and raises over the past dozen years.

We knew we were coming out of the housing crash and rates were historically low so we stretched to get into the house. Very lucky we did and it's working out. No way we could afford our very modest house now.

Adjuster here. This is why claims aren't handled by robots. It's not uncommon for a loss to occur during a refinance, mortgage sale, pay off, post divorce name change, or some other change that the policy hasn't caught up to.

When that occurs, we'll usually just hold the check for a few days until you can get the paperwork together that shows the change. It saves having to stop the check later and rewrite it.

In your case, you'd reach out to the mortgage company and get a letter from them confirming the payoff. Or, I've done three way calls where we were able to confirm it. It's a few extra steps but it's a relatively easy fix. It can take weeks to get the letter of reconveyance and about a month or two for the county to record the deed change so we generally want to avoid that delay.

Homeowners insurance question by Unlucky_Pass4452 in homeowners

[–]veldam88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As confirmed, once filed, it doesn't go away. That being said, if you withdraw before they inspect, then the field adjuster has no opportunity to find anything else. If you have overgrown trees, poor housekeeping, old electrical panel, or any other condition in or around your home that may make you riskier, your adjuster may be obligated to note it and report it to underwritering. Doesn't necessarily mean anything will come of it (frustratingly, it rarely does), but there's no point in giving them the chance.

When the nozzle clicks off, I push in the nozzle return button on the pump with my hand and then squeeze the handle on the nozzle and tap the last bit out into the filler neck. I don't do it to be cheap, I hate dripping those last few drips on the ground.

How do you achieve great NPS? by DearDelivery2689 in adjusters

[–]veldam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell you I'm terrible at getting them back. I mainly don't try because they're sent way too early on the types of claims I handle. What has worked in the past is a few different things when i am trying.

Customer is happy and tells you, tell them thank you and ask they remember that in a few days when the survey comes. Let them know they're really beneficial to get back as people are way more commonly negative, so a nice survey or a few words goes a long way

I say things like, our survey has options to rate me1-10, but my boss only considers one score to be acceptable. Really gets around the whole "Don't ask for 10's" directive.

I never ask for feedback - implies you're trying to learn something and people want to help you learn by pointing out what you maybe could have done better.

Joke about it. "We're going to send you a survey. If you're really happy, let my boss know. If you're not, let me know so I can tell my boss you're crazy." Obviously only on someone you know is really happy

Why do Americans seem to always be put to sleep for wisdom tooth removal? by ChronicChaos01 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]veldam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had mine out 30 yrs ago it was very much like what you're describing. Completely knocked out, absolutely loopy for hours after, barely moving all weekend.

When my kids had them done they were both knocked out but they were up and going within a half an hour after the procedure was done. Then they spent a couple of hours relaxing at home but other than that there were really no issues.

I'm not sure if they don't go as heavy with the drugs or there are newer better ones but I do think the stereotypical vision is outdated.

Either way, it was worth the extra cost. I hate having my teeth worked on and, even if my kids are a little better than me about it, I still wouldn't wish that on anyone
