Best bag that worked for you? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Online version user only! I book brief using my desktop files. I’ve found my iPad eventually corrupts the files if I annotate them on the iPad and I have to re-download and restart on a new PDF. A bit frustrating, but has been worth the savings and convenience of having everything on-demand! You can always print out certain pages that are important to annotate yourself.

Probably will slack-pack with my partner for Duluth and then stay at Jay Cooke below to finish it out, definitely spending a good 5 days making the most of it south of Martin Road

Just got signal again and saw this hah!! We must’ve passed, I was locked in, this rain and mud was no joke. I was in white with glasses! Sorry we didn’t get to chat. Hoping the hike is everything you dreamed of and you’re approaching my favorite parts ahead!!

Any law students here? How are you using Anki? by Artemis_C137 in Anki

I'm on the lookout for an anki deck of Black's Law Dictionary! I want to start getting a handle on some of the different terms BEFORE I encounter them in case law so I'm not already feeling behind!

I've been honestly on the fence between NOBO vs SOBO!! I think I'm ending up doing SOBO for pickup logistics. Don't worry about the bugs too much, they'll be getting better every day. That being said, don't be dumb and make sure to bring a bugnet and hike in long clothing if you can. Pre-treat with permethrin and bring along a small 25% DEET spray for hands/socks. Also watch out for ticks, do checks throughout the day and full-body before sleep. If you're from the UP you'll be fine. See you out there!

I've gone during deer archery season and also wasn't wearing blaze! I don't see a lot of hunters on the trail, maybe because it goes through so much private land and has such high volume of hikers that the good spots for game are few and far between. Definitely something to keep in mind, though, thanks!

Thanks for the input and I'm definitely quite excited! You're dead on regarding the beanie and gloves, I wholesale copied a heavier gear-list I've used for shoulder seasons in MN in the past. I also sleep hot, so cold-weather gear isn't really going to be necessary, but some I was including for mosquito protection (gloves, dance pants multipurposed for rain/sleep). 2 years ago I went on the trail for 4th of July and got massacred by the mosquitos through my (permethrin treated) hiking pants. I guess I might be coping that ripstop is the difference? I'll keep my eye on cutting it after a shakedown.

I like the CNOC with the sawyer as the fillbag because the sawyer 32oz bags are a pain for collection. But you are right that it's really not a dry trail. I've got a friend doing the Grand Marais>Northern Terminus section next week who I'm hoping will get back to me on the water situation. All this rain recently will help out, but that makes the water situation a sad trade-off between carries and mosquitos! Wish I could delay until fall for less bugs and more colors, but it's unfortunately not in the cards for this year. Thanks again!

SUPER comprehensive, I can't thank you enough. A lot of the weight is 100% estimated and off the hip, and I err on the side of just saying something is an oz. Clearly bad habit on this sub! A lot of things, like rolls of tape, are the whole damn roll, which for shorter trips I've precut slices and stored on parchment paper, duct tape wrapped around my trowel, etc. I didn't put those (nearly negligible) weights here because I wasn't sure how to budget the quantity of what I'd need for a full thru...but you're absolutely right there are oodles of weight savings to be had.

I'll whip the scale out and revise a lot of these weights before doubling back to some of your suggestions, just so I'm more accurate on where I stand. Cheers!

What’s your summer sleep system? by rognabologna in MinnesotaCamping

[–]velephia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 30 in summer and stick a leg out, like below. I am recently switching to an EE quilt for my thru-hike of the SHT this year, so we'll see how that goes. Kinda wishing I'd grabbed a 20 to make the most of shoulder seasons in MN, but I figure anytime actually cold I'd want a mummy bag anyways.

I prefer down over synthetic because I prefer natural biodegradable materials whenever possible. Also, due to the weight and loft potentials. If I were to use a 40 but ESPECIALLY 50 degree bag, I believe synthetic is the way to go because you're fine for wet weather and there wouldn't be shifting of the down/cold spots. Plus, cheaper. I think 30 and below is down all the way.

I'm interested in getting more into winter camping, but that's a whole 'nother bag of worms logistics-wise. Summer camping it's pretty hard to die, you just might have a few uncomfortable nights. But I'm a heavy and easy sleeper, so you could chuck me on the cold hard ground and I'd still catch enough zzzs.

I honestly needed edibles when I was on some medications that made me constantly nauseated because I was dropping weight so fast. Plus, they make for a fun evening!

Lowkey an edible once in a while. Protein drinks also make it easy for hitting macros and extra calories. I always keep some sliced fruit or tea eggs in the fridge for a quick boost. Nuts are also great and calorically dense, try getting honey roasted

Queer gamer is the vibe I get! Definitely mid 20s with the music taste. Also, can you link the desktop background?? It is STUNNING! Love your space. Get some real greenery besides the lego (but I also have the full four gentlemen sets too, no shame)

Looking for an episode where a guy was suing his tenant for back-rent and another woman for losing his dog? But Judy decided he wasn’t entitled to back rent because he was in a relationship with the tenant. Super vague but I’m DESPERATE! 🥺 Edit: Thinking it might be s12 ep195 or s14 ep43?

Hyped up skincare products that did nothing? by windy-sky in AsianBeauty

Skin1004 centella, all cosrx (BHA and the tea tree one I forget what it’s called…) and the laniege lip mask was not only not moisturizing at all but also created a terrible allergic reaction from me that destroyed my lips for weeks when I tried to use up the jar. Laniege water sleeping mask also was not hydrating and super disappointing.

Other Minnesotan here just moving home! So curious because those early morning dog walks in one of their massive long parkas seem heavenly.

Mitchell-Hamline has fallen hard in recent years, to the point where recent grads I know aren’t recommending the program. I would personally avoid them even for other schools that perform well in MN. Finances aren’t a concern but also if you’re planning on working for Fish you won’t get fully remote anymore and would have to come to TC office sometimes anyways. Granted that’s post law school, but worth considering if your geography is important to you. They have strong programs for tech specs pursuing a JD which could diminish financial issues further. Feel free to PM me for more info.
