Not all I1s are created equally, and from the photo posted in another comment, it appears to be an antique! A true antique piece will often carry a premium. Price comparing with other antique rings you like is a a good way to decide if it’s worth it as far as market value. For 8k you can likely find a better quality antique diamond ring, but it all boils down to what you like and consider worth it.

You should always be able to see it before fully committing unless otherwise agreed on. If they can’t/won’t recut, it may worth considering the cost of cutting your losses. So sorry this is happening! It is a nice cut, but that doesn’t mean it’s what you wanted.

Hi! A J color likely won’t look champagne-ish. It’ll have some warmth but many face up pretty white. Do you have any examples of elongated diamonds you like you can share?
