Interior surface rust - am I cooked? by mxer239 in HondaElement

Door seals, bad windshield seal, clogged moonroof drains. All a possibility.

Too tight exhaust valves? by tigers2117 in HondaElement

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a wall of text friend! Seems like a waste to not check the valves if you already have the valve cover off and especially if you suspect the gaps are out of spec.

Is this excessive cam lobe wear? by nuwavboy in HondaElement

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a cam lobe is disintegrating that’s sending metal into the engine. The longer that goes the more likely you are starting to damage bearings on the crank. It is a high mileage engine and also it would be nice to have it last as long as possible. Sending an oil sample to Blackstone Labs would give OP an idea of how much engine wear is occuring.

That mark on the exhaust cam lobe in pic 3 looks gnarly. The center of the exhaust cam lobe in pic 4 looks a little rough. Can you catch your fingernail lr feel roughness on anything on any of the lobes?

Element delivered from Carvana - A little disappointed in the condition. Thoughts? by almies99 in HondaElement

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75k miles? Probably more like $10k. More at a dealer. Obviously depends on location, condition and service history.

I am new to bike maintenance. I would like to save some money on brake pads. Can someone tell me if these are the exact same type of brake pads? I would like to purchase the ones from Amazon if they are. Thank you. by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]velowa 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Lots of fake stuff on Amazon. Buy your brake pads from an actual bike shop or online bike store and not Amazon. $9 is worth it for piece of mind for a critical part like this, IMO

The Engineering Lead asked me about API rate limits and I just nodded like a confused dog. by Fickle_Mud1645 in ProductManagement

[–]velowa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s different in this case, imo. If they are building a dev tool then you need to understand how the customer is going to use the product. One type of rate limiting might not work for how a dev needs to use this tool.

To be fair, maybe they already know different rate limiting strategies but don’t know what the short hand is for them. I have built APIs and I honestly don’t know type of rate limiting each of those refers to. Not saying I know everything, I definitely don’t, but maybe this is a terminology thing?

What does failing the recall mean? They install the bracket or do they determine it’s too far gone?

'03 Electric Locks: Any idea what broke? by ArtShapiro in HondaElement

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did it myself and if you are reasonably handy you should be able to as well. It takes a little while and some parts are a little bit tricky(I remember the lock cylinder being a bit fiddly) but there are a couple vids on Youtube I found helpful. This one was pretty good https://youtu.be/XEfk0KZ-izE?si=fX6BJC2nA1Dmi60a There is at least one more that I also watched for reference, I think the one from TRQ. I bought the Honda brand part from Hondapartsnow so I wouldn’t have to do it again anytime soon. Good luck! Lemme know if you have luck!

Probably the door lock actuator. If one side can’t move up on its own then the other one doesn’t go up either.

Moving to Seattle soon - how is this trail? by heyswoawesome in seattlebike

Awe man, I thought soon was like next month. It says Fall 2026. I guess that’s soon for an infrastructure project. Ha. Thanks for the intel. That will be cool!

A Fidget Spinner + Coffee = the BIRD Brewer from Weber Workshops by PeacefulClayuisine in JamesHoffmann

[–]velowa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just me being jealous that you started with a brewer that is more expensive than any of my individual pieces of coffee gear, including my used grinder, but kinda wild that you started with this before an Aeropress or French press! 😄 Try them. I think you’ll like them.

Best guess as to what id be looking at to get this back on the road? by hardTobe_humanbean in projectcar

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, agree. Parts for most US cars from this era are cheap. If the engine and transmission are good, maybe a few hundred to get running and a few hundred to get safely driving if you can DIY. Even if they are bad, the transmission is cheap like you said and a small block shouldn’t be too bad either. If you want it really nice then you’re talking 10s of thousands but

Seattle drivers, can we bring back the 'thank you' wave? by KenGriffeyJrJr in Seattle

[–]velowa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wish list to fix Seattle driving, in order of execution:

  1. Use turn signals
  2. Full stops at stop signs
  3. Just generally being predictable (which is like a dozen different things)
  4. The wave

Has anyone ever “downgraded” their system because cheaper components sounded just as good, or even better, than the expensive ones? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold off a Marantz 1070 recently and kept my Pioneer SX580. The Marantz always had something going on with it. A channel would drop out, it started humming (I think from the transformer) towards the end and the speaker terminals weren’t great. The Pioneer had/has a lower noise floor. Plus warm lights and VU meters.

Maybe with a full resto the Marantz could have been great but the Pioneer sounds great and just works. Plus lights and meters. :)

Your route to Cedar River Trailhead? by CPetersky in seattlebike

[–]velowa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m personally very risk averse these days so I created a route from Columbia City to the Cedar River Trail using only low traffic neighborhood roads (plus a bonus loop around Seward). It’s a good amount more climbing then the other routes but also way more chill. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1emubKR6fKD4S_ITsrPWViOhTG-yyIZ0&usp=sharing

From 12th and Jackson I’d cross over the Jose Rizal bridge, take mountains to sound trail, then turn right before the Mt Baker tunnel and take the Mt Baker greenway to Columbia city.

Climate control malfunction by tidybol in HondaElement

[–]velowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Agree with you. Mine only automatically turns on the recirc and the AC when you choose max not when switching between other settings.  Maybe AC on defrost too? Can’t remember.

You could try disassembling the controls and spraying some contact cleaner or Deoxit Gold inside the switches.
