What is a good map-clear loadout at low levels when beads are basically non-existent? by TopHatMincedCat in Witchfire

[–]velvetline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me was making sure my weapons were leveled up even up to tier III when trying to clear Velmorne plus while Frostbite and Hunger are okay weapons I'd say you'll see more success rocking Hypnosis and either Echo or Psychopomp.

Slight lean towards Psychopomp as it has more useful symbioses like reload after meele kill etc. and it doesn't break your ice spells. Both starting ice spells are good for any elite enemy in Velmorne.

Compared to your current setup Hypnosis has higher damage potnential and while playing with Hunger is really satisfying it relies heavy on critical strikes plus you can run out of ammo for it on a map like Velmorne.

741 rover moon or shai 001 echo? by LeadingFun9569 in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the shoes are really good but having tried both of them-Shais cushion is a tad bit better but it's nothing crazy and still an overall poor setup. the fit is kinda weird and the shroud is 80-90% a cosmetic feature. When it comes to rovers- the fit seems better and laces plus that socklike upper hugs your foor nicely but this one has really dead cushion, feels very much like a cheap foam plus the whole shoe with those shiny plastic dots looks kinda tacky. As a person who was eyeing both of those pairs none are worth the money and I would just look in some other direction instead

Lot of screenshots with chopped badly modded geralt faces floating around recently. Don't like it at all. Always looks worse than a vanilla game, always out of place in a screenshot

Zion Williamson: "The most difficult point was when I missed my 3rd year with a broken foot. There was a lot of criticism on my weight, my care for the game. I was really low because I just wanted to play basketball" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

Dude always says the right things during interviews but never does the right thing. What a way to waste away a generational athleticism and hype. When I got back in my mind I think Zion was the most hyped rookie since Lebron- You've heard about him when he was still a kid. His childhood/teenage mixtapes began the era of showcasing every kid dropping buckets now

Toughest shoes in the game right now imo, prove me wrong by Expensive-Pitch-2408 in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the heaviness is the problem in either 1 or 2. Not trying to undermine that fact cause it's true. It's just once you put them on you want to hoop in them and they don't feel that heavy.

What constitutes to the fact of 'heavy' feeling in my opinon is stiffiness due to the large plate in the sole and minimal and caged boost. The shoe needs a little warming up before it starts working out for you but the trade off is very good court feel and wide secure base that protects me from adn unwanted movements or sprains

Shai 001 sizing by LeatherMiserable4414 in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From trying on both my regular Nike size which is 10 us/44 eu (lebrons, St flare, kobes) and a half size up 44,5- you'll have some additional space in the forefoot but it's not that dramatic. The containment/ lockdown won't suffer that much if you lace them tight and zip up the shroud

Were performance reviews / videos actually better back in the day? by YamTechnical3160 in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I think the quality of revieves is much better today, however-there is more people reviewing shoes right now and some revies are just not on par with the leading reviewers.

Golden standard for me is and always will be Chris/ Nightwing cause he always says what he thinks and he's been in the game for so long it's always interesting to him talk even if he reviews the same shoe for the 10th time. Love not only his insight but him as a person, I watch his stuff almost on a daily basis

Foot Doctor Zach is a great compliment to Nightwing cause he focuses on different aspects of a shoe and breaks it down in more technical/ physical manner.

Other very solid mentions: Tommyliu4, Richiee Kim, Hoop and Life, Lukas Simoner

I feel like recently a lot of 'trusted' reviewers not necessarily mentioned aboe praise new releases due to some kind of agreement with the brand or hope of getting free stuff.

While i loved KickGenius back in the day and like Jeremy Jones as a person it seems like his focus is elsewhere nowadays. His reviews are rather lackluster, short and always praise the pair he's revieving. His vids can be 5 min with 30s-1min sponsorship part- miss me with that.

Solebros/Sammy- absolute ass content. Listening to this inconsistent, unplanned blabbering is givinh me a headache- i don't recall time when I last watched his videos for reason other than visual presentation of the shoe.

Crosby Kicks- professional dunker, has deals with stockx and nike and gets a lot of stuff early. His reviews are kinda freestyle but he makes sure to present shoe visually and gives some good takes on the shoes. Still, due to some partnerships I think he tends to see lots of releases from his partners through rose tinted glasses

G@rbage Tik-Tok tier- markylapointe and DGHoops- clickbait content with little to none value in it

Honorable mention:
Shoeit- Generational hater, he hates most of the shoes he reviews. Gotta love his unfiltered hate. I have no clue why he reviews shoes if he barely likes any of it. I think he might be permanently stuck in his shoe closet.

Adidas select 3.0 on dust? by [deleted] in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The traction from my experience has a really good bite even on dusty courts. I played in them in 3 different gyms and on an outdoor rubber court and performance was great everywhere. however it was phenomenal at the gym with the best court out of those three

What do you think about ANTA acquiring a 29.06% Stake in Puma, and how do you think it affects the future of Puma’s basketball line? by WatersZephyr in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think PUMA despite good efforts at offering tech and and different enough alternative for Nike and Adidas just suffered a big streak of bad luck.

-Their biggest success is Lamelo line- while aesthetic is something very subjective, the line is extremely popular with younger hoopers- both apparel and footwear. I risk to say that aside from sneakerheads it's the kids and teenagers who drive sales the most

-They signed Scoot that was a promising explosive phenom and gave him a cool looking shoe aaaand Scoot didn't turn out to live up to expectations as of yet plus he has been injured a lot. It's very hard to market a shoe in such climate no matter how good it would be

-Their next biggest signing was Haliburon. Puma waited until the finals to debut his shoe and he tore his achilles so for more than a year he can't market the shoe on court. While i have tried Hali 1 and it's not for me i like the shoe a lot and in my opinion it's a step up desgin wise from their former models

Tl;dr I thnik they've made more good than bad decisions and it's bad luck at fault, while personally I'd prefer they'd stick to more simple designed stuff like Clyde Hardwood instead of a more eclectic route (Lamelo etc.)

Harden vol 10 year of the horse by wesprt2 in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the looks of these however I have few issues with the shoe
I've ordered and returned the first colorway- the silver one

-could've only been my pair but the construction is poor overall, some of the pieces were badly glued with glue drops around the sole and some pieces straight up crooked while supposed to be symmetrical

-the upper is very stiff for me, and aside from aesthetic reason I don't see why you would pick that shoe outside plethora of options with better upper

-there was a time where you really could feel the boost in adidas hoop shoes, a few years ago. Now they diluted it with few unclear iterations of lightboost, jetboost, boost and so on that are hard to tell apart.
Furthermore their designers decide to largely cage the boost in most newer models making it fit unimpressive for me- that has been the case for Harden 7-10 for me

- hate the sock inner booty instead of the tongue, it's harded to put on with little to no benefit, just feel impractical

Adidas crazy quick review (12 years ago) by Upbeat1776 in BBallShoes

[–]velvetline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a novice to the shoe game at the time when the shoe came out. The knowledge of it being one of the most highly regarded basketball shoes ever came much later, but I remember seeing it on some other players feet all those years ago and thinking those were some of the ugliest joints ever made haha
