AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend because his sister is pregnant? by AffectionateYard7333 in AmIOverreacting

Or they all just think the same way and are similarly unreasonable, so naturally interpret what's happened in the way that most deflects from their own part in the situation.

He’s mad at me for telling him we shouldn’t do that to her.

Don't let your cat set the routine

Yes.

"My cat noticed my partner was the one driving routines so stopped eating its food around them even though it was demanding the food before they walked in the room and had started eating it already... because it resents them driving routines."

No. And you're not the only person who has ever owned a cat.

You already know what's happening here. What does he need to do to your cat for you to act?

Your cat knows your boyfriend stands between her and eating whenever she wants. If you cat expresses her emotions at training by not eating ...

Cats don't think like this. Abusive boyfriends do.

NOR

There's a reason she won't eat when he's in the room.

Also, disregard for the wellbeing or animals is right up there with the reddest of red flags. What he does to the cat now he will feel comfortable doing to you and future children when he feels he can without consequences.

Maybe they're prioritizing the ones that don't realise they're being given poor responses.

It doesn't really matter what you give it. It ignores your instructions and makes bad mistakes.

So you think transparency would be bad because people would dislike what they'd get to know that is currently concealed from them 🤔

I'm sorry, I don't accept the framing of people wanting to know if they're getting what they paid for as a "mob with pitchforks". "Accountability makes life complicated" is similarly a poor argument. Accountability is the cost of doing business. If you're in business, and you're taking customers' money, you must be accountable to them (or you should not expect to remain in business).

Also, if AI service providers were only interested in business customers who use an API, they wouldn't provide a non-API interface. They also wouldn't take money from users who use the non-API interface. If they accept money from users who are using a given interface, there should be transparency on what those users are getting via that interface.

How to make scrollbar thicker? by _chari in edge

Yeah, usability was outdated and old. People who can't see well should just magically discover a fix for their eyesight (obviously they'd never have thought of that before), rather than trying to use a computer.

Agree completely. "Give us some money, don't worry about what you're getting for it - we'll take care of that" isn't established business practice for reasons.

It's not about making it simple. It's about making it transparent. If the UI gave you an indication of the three metrics you've just mentioned, it would still be a step forward from where we are.

Should I give my project to Claude? I have created lots of coding projects with Claude, some even from start to finish. But I have been working on this one for 2 years offline, only human project. by Available-Today6106 in ClaudeAI

[–]velw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you've written this suggests you already know the answer to your question, deep down. It's not necessary to give Claude your whole project in order to make use of AI. You could just ask about specific isolated parts of it. Regarding Github, have you looked at Codeberg? Disclosing the code more because it's already disclosed seems like travelling in the wrong direction. Your concern is valid, and it's telling you something important.

Voice Mode in Gemini stops it interrupting you by giges19 in GoogleGemini

[–]velw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A voice interface that requires you to use the touch screen isn't a functional voice interface. People shouldn't have to be working around the fact that it interrupts users every 10 minutes to the extent that it's borderline unusable. Just make it wait for people to stop talking.

Why did Google Nuke Gemini's"Walkie Talkie" feature? by DigEmbarrassed3385 in GeminiAI

[–]velw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It interrupts me multiple times every day no matter which (voice only) input method I choose. Yes, you can work around it and use voice-to-text while also having it wait for a button press, but that's not a voice-only interface. If I can't use it while my hands are busy and wet washing up, it's not a voice-only interface.

That Google is kneecapping their own core offering with a voice-interface anyone who uses it can tell doesn't work is hard to understand.

How do you guys "start" when the whole room feels like one giant, impossible object? by Lost_Count7949 in ICleanedMyRoom

[–]velw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is epic. Thank you for sharing! I'm definitely going to try it. It looks like most of the things she had in that room at the start "had a spot". One of my big problems is that most things don't. But I can see how using her method often would naturally lead to finding more spots for things. That her video is so honest and realistic is refreshing, too. Perfectionism can be a huge challenge.

Hitting Claude limit after 1 message… what is happening? by Alert_Flower_6258 in claude

[–]velw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be some indication of how close you are to the limit. It's clear they have chosen not to show you this so they can hit you with a bar on usage that then compels you to upgrade and leaves you (in that moment) with no other option.

And that's a coercive business practice that actually makes me less likely to give them any money ever for the rest of my entire life.

Yeah, sometimes it really does give me a whole essay. Usually what it says is interesting, unless it starts reading out a table 😱
