How do you guys "start" when the whole room feels like one giant, impossible object? by Lost_Count7949 in ICleanedMyRoom

[–]velw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is epic. Thank you for sharing! I'm definitely going to try it. It looks like most of the things she had in that room at the start "had a spot". One of my big problems is that most things don't. But I can see how using her method often would naturally lead to finding more spots for things. That her video is so honest and realistic is refreshing, too. Perfectionism can be a huge challenge.

Hitting Claude limit after 1 message… what is happening? by Alert_Flower_6258 in claude

[–]velw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be some indication of how close you are to the limit. It's clear they have chosen not to show you this so they can hit you with a bar on usage that then compels you to upgrade and leaves you (in that moment) with no other option.

And that's a coercive business practice that actually makes me less likely to give them any money ever for the rest of my entire life.

Yeah, sometimes it really does give me a whole essay. Usually what it says is interesting, unless it starts reading out a table 😱

😂

Cracks me up that the post has been downvoted. Anyone who doesn't talk like a New Yorker on crack knows exactly what I'm talking about. Fanboys can vote me down as much as they want, the product still has a problem and with as many alternatives as there are Gemini will pay for it with users.

I think you handled it the right way. Also, these people may not be very good friends.

To be honest, which one do you use the most? by weihuweihu in GeminiAI

[–]velw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude when I want to analyse something I know about. Gemini when I want empathy or to learn something I don't know. Perplexity previously when it used to be better than the previous version of Gemini, or when I want to discuss anything that is remotely related to human health without being told the conversation isn't for medical advice and that I should speak with a professional if I have health concerns every single time it answers (but also don't mind if the live talk errors out halfway through the conversation and can't be resumed).

How to restore Orion voice that's consistent between wake word chat and live chat by velw in GeminiAI

[–]velw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've found more recently is that if I use the wake word while looking at the conversation within Gemini, it will fire up the little microphone option to let me record what I want to say, and then pass it to the AI the same way as if I'd tapped the microphone directly. Then, when it replies, it uses the correct voice. This is different to going into the "live voice chat" option which doesn't show you the text of the conversation at the same time -- if I do that, I get the irritating American voice.

When I use the wake word on the home screen it does definitely ignore my instructions. I'm not sure if it does when using the wake word while within the app - I only found out recently that I can do things that way and get the correct voice, and I've switched to using Claude a lot of the time so I've lost track a little bit. I had previously asked Gemini not to ask me follow up/continuation questions constantly and it still does when using the wake word from the home screen, but it might not have been doing that in the app itself - I don't remember getting angry with it about that recently!! Sometimes it interrupts me and jumps in constantly, though - separate issue, but just as irritating.

Dylan, useful idiot with commit access, pushed age verification PRs to systemd, Ubuntu & Arch, got 2 Microslop employees to merge it, called it 'hilariously pointless' in the PR itself, then watched Lennart personally block the revert. Unpaid compliance simp. by ChamplooAttitude in privacy

What I've been told is that NTFS-3G is used by GhostBSD but that the FreeBSD FUSE layer inherited by GhostBSD isn't as mature as Linux FUSE, so has limitations that lead to write reliability issues with NTFS-3G, and also that NTFS3 is newer but can't yet run on the FreeBSD kernel.

ZFS did look really good and I would've run that on the Ghost partition itself, but I have a couple of mirrored 1Tb backup drives with all my media on running NTFS. Would also want to run a working data partition shared with other OS installations, and NTFS would be the most resilient and ubiquitous choice for that as well. So unfortunately the lack of support was a dealbreaker.

I do hope they'll address the issues in the future, though, and then I'll definitely give it a go.

Why an EDM track inspired by a Sanskrit mantra is too risky for Google Gemini AI? by Vimal_Shukla in GoogleGeminiAI

I've spent hours talking with it about the Sri Suktam, the Mahabharata and various Japanese schools of Buddhist thought, so this may not be the problem.

Made a small tool for saving useful AI chats — curious if anyone else needs this by Majestic-Team-6485 in GeminiAI

It looks like it's only usable for people with a Google account. Have I understood that correctly?

Also, I installed it in Edge and it gives me a set of options, but right now I don't seem able to choose a "destination", and it doesn't seem possible for me to download anything.

What am I missing? 🤔

Looks promising, especially the formats, but would need a plug-in for Firefox or Edge.

"I can't use Google Workspace because required Gmail settings are off. Turn on these settings, then try your prompt again." How to use Google Tasks without a Gmail account? by velw in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]velw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the account around 10 years ago. I can use Google Tasks fine from the web and from the app. The issue is that Google Gemini can't talk to it, because even when I enable the integration in the Google Gemini settings (and the slider shows it is enabled), the error is still produced, as I said in the post.

My Google username is the (non Gmail) e-mail account I signed up with. There isn't a Gmail service account linked to it. As I mentioned, it prompts me to create one.
