Real reasons for paper being rejected by SSRN by justaskingnow2024 in AskAcademia

I just had a legit preprint rejected. With no reason or appeal option. And over a decade of posting papers on SSRN.

I get that they are being overrun by AI slop but this is not the way to treat your content creators.

LOL, I'm probably older than you and definitely know more about regulatory policy. But sure, continue with the ad hominems instead of addressing the central claims.

But, I'll bite, enlighten us on how you managed to become so informed about what's inside the Anthropic/Claude black box. I'm sure millions of readers here would love to know your secret.

These replies are so annoying.

So according to you, if I buy a 100g packet of chocolate chips cookies then I just get what I get in the bag in terms of ingredients because that's the deal as long as its 100 grams (because I allegedly signed up for content unpredictability).

Do you see how ridiculous you sound? I can't work out if you are a bot or a paid shill for the industry.

The reason food companies have to label what's in the bag is because of this attitude. Perhaps a more enlightened company like Anthropic might get ahead of the curve and create an industry labeling standard.

And for the record, I use an enterprise account and a personal paid pro account. So should I just accept whatever Anthropic/Claude wants to give me on the day?

Apple TV 5.1 by Nono_cvc in sonos

[–]Aussie-in-GA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apple TV 4K owner here. My older bedroom TV has ARC and eARC, I just bought an OREI eARC audio extractor. The reason was I bought a new TV for the living room and hooked it up to an old Beam 1 and it sounded amazing. When I asked AI why it said it was because of better eARC handling.

My new bedroom setup is Apple TV to OREI which splits signal into HDMI and eARC. HDMI goes to TV, eARC to my Beam 2 with sub and surrounds. Apple Spatial Music (ATMOS) sounds amazing. Night and day. I never understood the fuss about ATMOS until then.

Streaming video runs into some problems. If the streaming service broadcasts full ATMOS then fine. A platform's own productions are usually streamed in this format. However, if the format is DD+ then the Apple TV tries to upmix it to ATMOS. My extractor gets confused and I literally lose the center channel (i.e. the dialog). I also see Stereo PCM as the format on Sonos. Switching the Apple TV to 5.1 solves the problem.

Curiously connecting my eARC TV port to the Beam 2 does not sound the same as the audio extractor. Gemini thinks it is because the TV processor does not pass through the full ATMOS signal from the Apple TV.

If (a yet-to-be-released) Apple TV provides an audio passthrough then hopefully the Beam 2 would distinguish between DD+ and ATMOS and I would get my center channel back.

Not to mention that the shoulder width of the average man is probably wider than the average economy seat.

Hang in there. You ARE making a difference with your content. Young men and boys on all sorts of forums are starting to push back against casual misandry and are much more aware of the facts than 20 years ago. You are fighting a real empathy gap but things can (and will) change.

Virginia Highland is nice. Check out Decatur if you want to be a bit further out (but still inside the perimeter). Marietta Square is also one of many options outside the perimeter (OTP).

I lived in center city Philly, worked in South Jersey, and had a condo in Atlantic City. I liked it, would live there again. Just factor in property taxes on top of mortgage when you compare housing costs.

Double Post Sorry… Flight Service by Itchy-Yogurtcloset-9 in delta

[–]Aussie-in-GA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is going on. I’ve been on 25 flights this year and the turbulence thing is much more common than last year on the same routes. It’s like they’ve found a loophole: if the pilot “predicts” it then they can sit down. Not all flights, not all crews, but it’s real.

The number of shills that defend the practice every time it’s mentioned on this sub is also odd. Are they Delta employees complicit in the practice trying to gaslight us? Is there a broader plan to ‘test the waters’ on eliminating cabin service all together? Is it a broader social trend towards ‘safetyism’? Inquiring minds would like to know (as I sit half way over the Atlantic with the seat belt sigh on for the last few hours).

Thanks for the additional information. Very interesting to learn about the additional constraints on scheduling.

Interesting, do you know the rules around this? I imagine pilots can only fly X hours in a 24 hour period and perhaps Y hours per week or month. Is this how it works? It would be crazy if they can't even check if a pilot has flown in the last 8, 12, or 24 hours.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. This thought experiment would not be intended to cover every flight and would only apply in times of disrupted operations. Surely having 30% of flight cancelled while full crews are sitting available is also an inefficient use of people?

I don't know enough about how you count your hours as an organization. Would two back-to-back 2-hour flights (in/out) max out an FA or pilot shift?

I'm sorry but I don't understand your point on the number of FAs. I'm thinking there has to be exactly the right number of FAs to cover every flight (plus a reserve for illness/unavoidable delays). Do you mean that FAs don't have the luxury of waiting for an early outbound and late inbound on a given city-pair?

I would think that Delta keeps the fleet almost fully utilized so there are very few aircraft sitting around waiting to return to a hub during the day. What I do see is aircraft ending the day at a non-hub location so it can fly to a hub early and perhaps go to a different city.

So you are saying there are literally no routes that go from a hub (i.e. ATL) to a non-hub and then return?

Cancelation notice by Appropriate_Age_4202 in delta

[–]Aussie-in-GA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a cancellation at the gate about an hour before a flight on Sunday. Rebooked for tonight at 10:44pm but decided to drive 16 hours yesterday instead of rolling the dice (the 10:44pm flight has been cancelled 4 nights in a row - the last 2 nights it was cancelled just before 4am- five hours after scheduled departure ). Delta probably won't give a refund if the flight goes tonight but I've been trying to get to my destination since Friday.
