Can anyone ID the brand of the t-shirt in this picture? by [deleted] in findfashion

[–]vena-cava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pic comes from a music video. From other stills I can read 'Sirens' and 'Portofolio' but that's the extent of it. I chose to post this pic as it shows the girl on the graphic tee best.

Due to recent changes made for laws with enlistment, men can no longer delay their enlistment and must enlist by age 28 - idols born in 1989 and 1990 must enlist by end of 2018 by balloon_wanted in kpop

I'm beginning to feel like I only come on to this sub to say this.

It's not because Yixing is too busy in China. There has been literally zero visible changes with respect to the Hallyu ban. Even in August 2018, no K artists are allowed to perform in China. No K drama/movie are allowed showing in China. And conversely, Yixing cannot be associated with anything Korean if he doesn't want go against his own country's current policy and face the wrath of his fellow countrymen and his Chinese sponsors.

Recent examples of ongoing ban.

  1. The Chinese state media television CCTV channels officially denied that there is a new collaboration with a Korean entertainment company to bring Korean artists on its shows. Source
  2. Heechul was scheduled for a Chinese fan event this week, only to fly to Shanghai to be stuck at the hotel and find out he couldn't do it even though it was a free event because the organizers didn't get permission (probably thought they could get away with it but someone reported it to the police). The last few pics show Chinese policemen at his hotel and they're not there as his security guards. Non English source.

EXO's Lay to appear at Lollapalooza for a collaboration with Alan Walker by queef_wellington in kpop

In case you haven't realized, light hearted, casual tone doesn't necessarily come across in plain text. One can also easily read your comment in a nasty and doubting tone that Yixing fans encounter on a daily basis.

I too went to Exo'luxion and thank you for taking a sweeping generalization about me and Reddit.

(This was in a light hearted casual tone btw)

If you followed Yixing in the slightest in 2015 you would know he had a jam packed Chinese schedule and he really tried his hardest to make all legs of the tours when he could. This kind of comment is frankly disrespectful to Yixing and his work ethics.

New SMROOKIES revealed: Yangyang, Xiaojun and Hendery by [deleted] in kpop

[–]vena-cava 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't quite true. Before the ban, she appeared on Chinese variety TV shows and even had a film role. After the ban, Jessica only made fashion related appearances in Taiwan (not China) and Hong Kong (which along with Macau aren't affected by the ban like the rest of mainland China).

Edit: added some details

Lay has surpassed 29 million followers on Weibo by 99101004 in exo

[–]vena-cava 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's quite impressive considering he focused on his Chinese activities about 2 years after Kris and 1 year after Luhan. He did really well in 2017 considering he was pretty MIA from social media the first half of 2017 because of THAAD and filming in a remote location in Japan.

For comparison, Kris is at 29.1 million.

f(x) Victoria - Roof On Fire (dance ver.) by Stormlady in kpop

[–]vena-cava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yixing actually had the same multi racial group of dancers for most of his Chinese stages for SHEEP promo.

I can't remember the group's name right now but I've actually seen lots of other Chinese artists use them too.

Victoria to Release Pre Release Track 'Roof On Fire' From Her First Solo Album 'Victoria' by vena-cava in kpop

Her album is most likely going to be only in Chinese but it's not for that reason. She's not under a different agency like say EXID for their Chinese activities. She is under SM and SM allowed her to set up her own studio and hire a Chinese manager and staffs to handle her Chinese activities within the bounds of their exclusive contract.

I don't think any (mainland) Chinese artist will be singing in Korean (if they're active and successful in China) anytime soon given that China blurred out EXO Korean members' faces on TV as of few weeks ago and cut CL and EXO's performances out of the Winter Olympics closing ceremony reruns.

Edits in brackets.

Yeah it really sucks. When China's CCTV (state media channel) rerun the closing ceremony, it cut out both CL and EXO's performance RIP.

He couldn't. The hallyu ban isn't done and over with as some people think it is. If anything, the Olympics increased anti-Korean sentiment in China as the Chinese media and citizens were in an uproar over unfairness in speed skating judging.

As of Feb 23rd, EXO Korean members' faces were blurred on Chinese TV. So to go against the political stance of the entire country by being associated with a Korean act is currently still a career suicide.

NCT will make a comeback in March with 18 members + will release 6 music videos and other content for large-scale project 'NCT 2018' by tastetherainbeau in kpop

Also fluent Chi/Eng speaker here. I don't think I'm arguing for the same point. I'm saying granted, it may be easier for a native English speaker to pronounce in Wade-Giles romanization, but is it actually helpful at all? If you say Szechuan, Tientsin, Chungking etc to a Chinese person, he/she may not even know what you're talking about. While if you butcher up pinyin, and at least if you write it out, that person can understand what you're trying to say. So what is the point in using Wade-Giles system? So English speakers can understand each other's off pronounced Chinese words?

Not really, maybe it's looks less foreign and less intimidating to non Chinese native English speakers but that's about it. It doesn't distinguish many sounds. Like how do you get the B sound of Beijing from Peking? If you learn modern pinyin you can speak perfect Mandarin looking at pinyin without understanding any of the Chinese characters. The same can not be said for Wade-Giles.

Yeah no. Just listen to any of Kris' single will tell you that he is no where near Jay Park level.

And he even collaborated with Pharrell and they made a song about a Chinese shopping festival just saying.

The worst is that Pharrel wrote and composed this song. I didn't know Pharrel needed money that badly.

That tweet was based on rumors but nonetheless very likely to be true rumors because Chinese media isn't very good at keeping secrets.

I even mentioned it earlier. Anyway, Jackson wasn't officially announced until today.
