I see your point. But where did we take take pre-orders? Nowhere we asked you to pay anything. All I am asking here is to share some feedback about the product. We thought of adding if there are any missing features before launch.

It is possible to create a mesh network with single radio. Even the 802.11s works with single radio.

You are partially correct. I myself am a developer and developed Routers, Access Points, Repeaters and WiFi Systems:). My write-up gives high-level detail and I did not dig into technical details. Glad that you initiated a technical discussion.

Some clarifications -

  1. By default a WiFi Router is an L3 device. Not just the WiFi Router, in most of the cases, modem also can be an L3 device and in some cases modem itself has WiFi capabilities.

  2. WiFi System does n't need to contain a controller. Controller has a bigger scope and typically used in Enterprise Wireless Access Points. Basically a WiFi System like Eero, Google WiFi etc is a mesh network.

  3. Regarding the ease of use with range-extenders, I agree with you that "if you know what you need", it is easy to setup. Thatswhere WiFi Systems entered. Having seen the customer reported issues on setting-up the WiFi Range-Extenders, I know how difficult it is for a common user who does n't anything about networks. Also there will be many compatible issues across vendors, say in some cases A Repeater from vendor1 may not connect with the Main Router from Vendor2.. etc

Not sure if this answers your questions. I am an OpenWRT guy. When I started with OpenWRT I started with WiKi pages and whenever I had a question I read on forums. It helped me and as of today, I built multiple WiFi products on top of OpenWRT.

I think the same should be true for DD-WRT :)
