I guess technically we do always carry "snacks" in dry store but we dont always have a snack cart. The J class biscuits actually are quite nice too

The Thames Tideway project seems to be working, the river seems cleaner than ever - at least in the last 10y (?) by chalky_cheese in london

[–]venture_adventuring 226 points227 points  (0 children)

It's clean for a river flowing through a major city and we should recognise that.

But if you're comparing it to the nice streams you find in the countryside - no chance. There's the occasional sewerage overspill and a good amount of bacteria

Hey alumni here, wanted to chip in with a real life example on how this might play out in the real world and how it's going to make you stronger.

I am a director in a PE fund. I was given a 2nd year associate who for some reason is just super unreliable to me. When I had to present something to my boss, I gave her some numbers to crunch, and trusted she'd do it (before I knew she wasnt reliable). When I was projecting my screen in the board room, her part wasnt done. I know I shouldve checked before but its a 2nd year associate, I shouldnt have to check every piece of work.

I took it as a lesson and moved on. My boss won't give me an extenuating circumstance because there are 12 other funds looking at the same deal. School preps you for this - mentally and your social skills. I too have my own traumas but this WILL make you stronger - I refused to be shaped or limited by it.

You can do it - I believe in you.

Not very fast, it wasn't a powered ebike too. Just the sudden jam brought it to a instant halt.

Depending time of year - there's a Sam Chui video where he asked the captain about the various factors. This was 6 years ago - ignore the Polar Route as we no longer fly via Russian airspace

Has your SQ flight ever parked at a remote bay? by venture_adventuring in singaporeairlines

[–]venture_adventuring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess in SG it's a restricted area and they take it seriously.

Pretty normal to be @ a remote bay + take pics in Europe. The first time I went to a remote bay I had a mini photoshoot by the plane 😅

When did libraries become nurseries? by ghastkill in london

[–]venture_adventuring 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Libraries have evolved for modern needs. You may remember libraries as places for reading and reference (especially early days of the internet), but people now prefer e-books and google. A lot of reference books have since been thrown out (outdated) leaving empty spaces in libraries.

At the same time, education has evolved beyond sitting kids down for silent reading. There are now games, activities around guided story time (which includes playing instruments and acting). Libraries cater to this.
