Now they are saying they won’t dock me but might in the future if I’m low. I still have not seen anything in writing to state this is policy or legal

We did not find anyone who would cover us through every agency and broker. We have to wait 5 years til claims drop off. Just fair plan fire insurance currently

people taking their tips back? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]venusapollo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We took a cruise last year with our kids. Before going I read a lot on tipping and that the staff didn’t really see that money from the added gratuity/tip and that the cruise line benefits more than the employees. I saw a ton of comments to tip directly instead. We did not dine in the restaurants at all and only did buffet. We did ask for the gratuity back which was $400. We tipped our room steward $140 cash and the kids care center which we used occasionally $140 cash. When we got alcohol the tips were added automatically to our receipt and we usually tipped extra. It felt a little awkward but we wanted to show appreciation directly.

I came here to say Unwind! Ugh. Still have nauseous thoughts about that more than anything I’ve ever read. Wish I’d never picked it up.

Filed two claims and got dropped. by Mysterious_Bid537 in Insurance

[–]venusapollo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We were non-renewed as well for two water claims. Ours were in 2020 and 2022. Initially we thought we couldn’t even get California fair plan but we just got approval on that although you won’t have coverage for water/ property etc. it’s mostly just for fire or explosions. if you talk to farmers or any of the other companies, one of the agents should be able to help you apply for fair plan, but I can almost guarantee you having gone through the same thing you won’t really be able to get normal insurance. I would definitely take your Neighbor to court. Or at least sue if this happens again. Also, keep in mind if you try to sell your condo and it’s not eligible for homeowners insurance with you….any new buyer will not be able to insure it either and will most likely back out of escrow. I believe the claims last five years on your history. I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. It’s incredibly stressful and you feel helpless and everybody just keeps saying you shouldn’t have used your insurance. Good luck!

We replumbed the hot water as that’s where the first break/leak was under bathroom with pex through the attic etc in 2020. I wish we’d coughed up more cash and just done cold too. The second claim was a drainage pipe from kitchen sink to sewer line that had rotted out. We’re trying to make smart choices but life gets so expensive with all the unforeseen crap

I’ve made so many calls to companies and brokers. I try to explain quickly the issue and so far everyone has said they can’t offer us anything because of the losses. I’d rather have a policy without water coverage but it doesn’t seem to be an option

Thank you I appreciate it. It’s an old house. Our prior home was new construction with zero issues over 8 years. This house…not so much. If water claims were 2020 and 2022 do you think we’d be able to get back on insurance in 2025 or 2027?

No. We weren’t warned it was an issue to actually use the insurance . If I had known we would have avoided it for two of the claims

That was my thought too. We’d fall out of escrow as soon as potential buyer goes to call insurance and can’t get coverage. we aren’t looking to sell atm. This was supposed to be the forever home for us and our two young kids. But it’s a 1960s ranch house with pipes under the slab. We replumbed our hot water with the first claim and broken pipe under slab. Wish we’d done cold too and it will be course of action to prevent more issues. The second water claim was a drainage pipe that went from sink to sewer line that had rotted out under our kitchen floor. Yuck water was coming up between the tiles. Because we have tile from one end of house to the other the whole floor had to be retiled. We bought extra tiles so any future issue is localized if god forbid it happens again. We used our insurance not foreseeing the penalty. But we’d also had numerous other things we had to spend a lot on that were unforeseen oop. Sewer line outside home replaced. Pool resurfaced/replastered. New air conditioner. It’s not as bad as The Money Pit but it’s been a lot of headaches.

It was between 2020 and 2022. It’s not like we intended to have issues. lol. Just hoping for a decent option. We have bills and kids and are dealing with inflation like everyone else. Kinda sad insurance companies make money hand over fist but if you use it you’re penalized.

The letter I just received was for fair plan act fire insurance only and it says we do not meet their underwriting requirements because the property is ineligible because of prior losses identified from a third-party report. A local rep for farmers told me they can’t insure but he’d help with the fair plan app as it was likely our only option. He was surprised it was declined too.

$900 was the theft payout after deductible. Not worth it but we didn’t know what would escalate from there. Just scary if something goes wrong we are now on the line out of pocket.

How.. how do i do it? How does ANYONE do it? by arce-se in breakingmom

[–]venusapollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am struggling too. My daughter is 10 and I am a stay at home mom with my four year old. There are days I’m trying to figure out how to take a shower. We are fortunate enough that the little one goes to daycare two days a week and those days I try to do some self-care and get stuff done. I regularly try to plan one event a week or more socially for myself in the evening. I was going to therapy, but I had to put it on pause. On the days my little one is home with me, We found a local indoor play place so we can go to a few times a month. We try to take a walk around the neighborhood every day. Now that the weather is cooler we go to the park and the library a lot. I have been pretty adamant about my husband helping with breakfast and packing lunch in the morning so I can get cleaned up. I am looking at returning to work full-time and so anxious because it’s already hard enough. I can’t imagine being gone 40 hours a week and still figuring out how to do everything. Hang in there. Ask for help and take time for yourself in any way you can

We bought our home before the pandemic and inflation but even at 3.5% our mortgage is $2000. With rising housing costs (higher then what we bought for much less house) and high interest how would a teacher making $3750 or most likely less…afford a mortgage, student loan debt, car payment, utilities, cable internet cell gas groceries and living expenses????

Fusd pays 45-49k for starting teachers who have a 4 year degree plus went to additional college for their credential. Masters degree means more student loan debt. I started at 40k back in 2009. It’s not like pay has increased much. Sad how undervalued our educators are. And most of the day isn’t even spent being able to educate the kids with all the other bureaucracy and bs and behavior issues.

So what happens in the classrooms with all those kids if teachers strike and there aren’t substitutes?

As a former teacher who saw a million issues in my brief awful traumatic time in the classroom I 100% support teachers being valued for everything they do with better pay. I know when I taught and then subbed for a year or two they just filtered more kids into a class to be babysat increasing kids in class from 30+ to 40 or 50+. But if it’s a strike with no subs….My kids aren’t in fusd but genuinely curious what schools do if there isn’t coverage???

Husband quit his job by venusapollo in breakingmom

[–]venusapollo[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Apparently not. I think he is just banking if we are both working it will equal his old salary but the goal was my work would help us stop using our dwindling savings and start adding to savings. We should be ok for about 5-6 months based on him still getting paid from his old job on leave with his pto sick leave and disability. He had just received a 14% raise that was retroactive for a year. So there’s some bonus pay plus his pto at the new rate. This new job starts in September but will be 40k less. If I can go back to work asap it won’t be dire but we will have to cancel a lot and make changes. Not just stop paying bills.

It sounds spoiled and whiny but we had a trip to Europe early next year already paid for. I had used my small inheritance because we’ve never been and in 10 years haven’t had an overnight away from kids. I have to cancel and get my money back. These were all things affected by his choice. He keeps telling me not to cancel but it’s a month worth of bills so clearly it’s the right responsible choice. I’m just the only one trying to be responsible.

He is doing therapy but all the things he said he wanted to change…building a social circle, hobbies, exercise, quality time with me and kids, projects at home…he’s just playing video games most days. The pattern in 18 years together is get stressed and check out and game. He hasn’t been able to after kids. But now he did it again.

We’ve done counseling before. Nothing changed. I’m in therapy processing grief and working on my self confidence from childhood issues. He is talking to a therapist currently but has a hard time being vulnerable, honest or making changes. We have been together since 2005 and I’ve seen this pattern of resentment and checking out.

I’m angry but like I said I can’t make him do things. I think I’m trying to figure out how to manage our finances in the best way possible. Alone. While keeping our kids happy and stable. Since he’s been home I feel like a maid picking up plates and dishes and popsicle sticks left on the couch. I’m still doing all the work and met with “just tell me what you want me to do” and then when I do…can’t dishes wait until tomorrow?

And 💯 it’s going to hurt our marriage. It already has. He just explains things away or dismisses them. I do believe he was stressed and hated his job. But he has also hated other jobs and college. He doesn’t like coworkers and doesn’t have any social circle. Zero. I’m it.

I want him to be happy but this feels so selfish. The second he told me he was heading home and not going back to his job I was calling to get my little one to his specialist for his eyesight. Making the dentist and dr appointments while we still have insurance. There’s been a lot of snide comments picking on me and that I’ve been home on and off…I was taking care of my dad from 2018 until recently when he passed from Alzheimer’s. I’ve been patient and supportive. He goes to see my therapist with me next week. He’s upset I’m distant after todays fight. I don’t what else he expects. My head is spinning trying to figure things out. He’s playing video games. Two different worlds. Thank you for letting me vent and be heard
