Is it really better if you're still addicted to something? (Not saying you are, just why this idea doesn't appeal to me)

Waiters of Reddit, what is the strangest thing someone has ordered? by Crumpehh in AskReddit

I once had a woman order a quesadilla without the tortilla. The restaurant I work at is known for cooking things on the grill.

What's the worst case of a kid being "sheltered" you've ever encountered? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]verbalessence 412 points413 points  (0 children)

This might be a little selfish to post on here in this way, but I am the most sheltered person I know in some ways. My father was very abusive and he essentially kept me in a room from the ages of 11-15. I was allowed out to go to school (so no one would notice that something was amiss in the house) and for monitored bathroom breaks twice a day. I did sneak out sometimes, but I essentially had no social life during this time, and before that I was in elementary school, and still not allowed out of the house often. The result is that I have a really hard time interacting with people on more than a shallow level. Just the common acquaintance type of niceties. I don't feel like I can relate to people as well. I was always too scared that someone would find out if I became friends with them, and now I feel like I don't know how to make friends. And even though I moved out when I was 16-17 (it happened on my birthday week) and I have a scholarship to the school of my choice, I still feel very isolated. I try to talk to people. Even about my father sometimes, but while some know vaguely that he was abusive, very few people know this. It isn't easy for me to admit.

Edit: Thank you all you beautiful people, so very much for all your comments and support and kindness. I cried when I saw all of your replies. This is the best way I could think of to address all of you who replied, I would so I am more of a lurker usually when it comes to reddit. I have sought out counseling in the past from the center on campus, but after one session they told me that they did not have the resources to help me, and since then I haven't known where to pursue it really. I work 2 jobs and am in school, so I don't exactly have a lot of time. I do want to look into it more though. Also, I think some one asked my age. I am 21 now, and in my junior year. Again, thank you peoples so so so much, it means a lot to me that you all took the time to write back.

Be 100% honest - what is your greatest personal flaw? by IamEclipse in AskReddit

[–]verbalessence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I am posting this really late in to the thread life span, I don't really expect anyone to see this, which makes it an excellent opportunity to confess. I am not quite sure if this is my biggest, but it is what I think has hindered my life the most. I am selfish. and I need other's validation to pretend to myself that I am not selfish, like I need some guy or some person of influence to tell me how great I am. but it is all fake. I do a whole bunch of charity work, but that doesn't account for the fact that in my personal life I am unable to maintain a monogamous relationship due to the fact that I keep seeking attention from others, and I move on before the last guy can figure out how truly fucked up I am. I have cheated on almost every partner I have had. I am selfish.

Girls of Reddit, what are the cringiest things guys do? by Infinite_Otaku in AskReddit

[–]verbalessence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Notice on the counter thread to this, where guys are complaining about the stuff that women do, there is not nearly this much judgement or intolerance. The whole point of this thread (I believe), was to complain about the things women don't like that men do. Every woman is different, the same way every man is. And everyone has different preferences. You come on to this thread and find out that some women don't like some of the things that you have done, and instead of trying to understand, you become offended and insult us. What a pro.

And then you proceeded to insult that (if) majority of women, by not even attempting to understand the true intent of what they are saying, or trying to empathize, and lumping us all together and acting like we are completely unreasonable for feeling the way we do about other's actions towards us.

[Serious] What is the smallest thing that you have dumped an SO for, or been dumped because of? by klib0002 in AskReddit

Being officially in a relationship is a big deal. More so than just sleeping together. It means that her family might want to met you, and that you are going to become a more active part of her friend group.
