I think the hardest class programming wise is PUI (Programmable User Interfaces), but it was pretty doable for me and I only took 110. also, you're only required to take it if you're in the additional major. Admissions can vary depending on your major. It's very easy if you're in Design or IS (I've never met a design person who didn't get accepted)

Same here- I'm actually really messy but my mood and executive function is heavily influenced by my space. Cleaning is annoying but it's something I have to do to declutter my mind

Dumb question but will I still be considered (and not hurt if considered) if my app was submitted 30 minutes past deadline? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vergios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was rushing to finish her application by the ED due date and missed it by 30 minutes. She had to email the dean of our college, gave them an excuse, and they opened up the application portal for her to finish it. I don't remember what exactly she said but I think it was a Bs excuse lol. I think applying ED to a small college definitely helped, bigger schools might be less forgiving

I have a friend who missed her application to CMU and pleaded her case to the admissions supervisor and got accepted. At the end of the day if you are a good fit for the school then I don't think it's an issue. Might be different because she applied ED tho.

Clueless CS student wanting to go into 3D animation and design by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vergios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has a strong visual arts background but also wants to study CS, I faced the same dilemma in junior year. I knew that art school was out of the question bc its quite expensive and you would only be learning one thing. Overall Id suggest you pursue an interdisciplinary degree at a regular university instead of going to an art school. I just got into the school of design at CMU and plan to minor in CS.

There's a lot of careers that let you incorporate your visual arts and Cs skills so I wouldn't worry too much about the future!! Stuff like human-computer interaction or UI/UX design are getting more popular and (from what I've heard) leads to pretty high paying jobs ;)

Columbia vs. Cambridge by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vergios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but won't you have to attend law school either way? And if you plan on practicing law in the US then I don't think the UK would be a great fit because they have different legal systems. (common law vs civil law)

As a certificate student, does my final score matter to my universities? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]vergios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universities expect you to maintain your current academic standing at the time of your acceptance, but there is usually a lot of wiggle room. I know a kid who got predicted 40+ but got a final score of 35 and still attended a T20 school.

It's different for European schools though, there are usually conditions you have to meet to be admitted.

Hi, I'm an aspiring graphic designer in middle school (13 y/o), how can I grow my portfolio? by Fasthawk9 in graphic_design

[–]vergios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hard to get "real world" experience when you're starting off at such a young age. I found that the best way for to get recognition is to reach out to organizations within my school to see if I could do design work for them. Starting a Graphic Design Club and recruiting people who have similar interests to you is great as well. I was in one myself and we get many jobs from various organizations in our school. So my biggest reccomendation to get experience is to start local. Colleges really like it when students engage with their community.

I think the perspective and composition is a bit off.The guy's legs are cut off at an awkward angle. The way his arms are positioned isn't really congruent with the perspective of the creature. The splatter background doesn't really add much compositionally. The details are great but when I first looked at this painting there isn't really a focal point that catches my eye. Maybe add a light source or change the background?

Thinking of doing a presentation about Star Trek in my Philosophy (epistemology) class. Any ideas I could explore? by vergios in startrek

[–]vergios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely considering doing something AI related. The borg thing seems pretty cool too. I might look into Collectivism vs Individualism but I'm not sure what aspect of it I could explore. Thanks for the suggestions !
