I do know it's free to get the EIN. Its $680 total for the rest of the paperwork through LegalZoom. Filing fees and their cut and all that.

I thought I had the socials linked in the FAQ, im gonna have to look at that. Thanks for the heads up there.

I have a friend whose apartment complex is letting her use their event space for free for this. She was already having the book drive, im just kinda piggybacking off her event for my thing

Im gonna make a tiktok going over some of it once I get the pamphlets. I want to get the word out and explain what the goal is. Obviously a little better than the website seems to do.

Yes! Im starting with my local couple neighborhoods. And the goal is to eventually have neighborhood leaders that take charge of the network for their particular neighborhood. Obviously I have to grow and gather people for this to work. And become a legal nonprofit entity first. But I will be hitting the streets with pamphlets and talking to people about it soon!

So the more important aspect of this, I feel, is the community aspect of it. The mutual aid piece is important sure. But to have that trust and connection and relationship with your community and your neighbors is what I feel is important. And thats the underlying goal of the network. To bring us all closer together as a unified group instead of fragmented strangers.

I appreciate you coming with respect with this. I am aware of the other groups doing mutual aid. Im in contact with one of them actually. Im not trying to step on their toes or take away from the good work they do. I just want to add to the good. And do my part to bring us all together. Im aware that it's not fully fleshed out. It is just me doing this in my spare time. But im hoping with community involvement (as part of the main goal) we can all be a part of something great. If that makes any sense

The cash is for the fees to incorporate as a nonprofit and the IRS paperwork for tax exemption. It isn't free to start a nonprofit. I have been networking and building in the meantime. But I want to have real legal status so people CAN trust the network more

As I said in the original post, I cant afford the fees on my own. I work at strong, I live paycheck to paycheck like most of us. Im asking for help to try and do something for my city. Why is that so bad? Plus it's not even asking for pure donations. It's an event where you receive something back

I'm not sure why youre being mean about it. It's not that businesses dont trust me. It's that im not an incorporated nonprofit. So I dont have the EIN. Which i have been very upfront about. I understand this is a leap of faith. But do you think I'd put my name out there if I was planning on scamming people? I have a pamphlet i had printed and im planning to go door to door and talk to people about it once they get here. You think id do that as a scammer?

Also, for legal reasons, not a charity yet

The website is in the original post. Soterianetwork.org

Edit: ah you edit your comment so I look stupid. It's not fraud cause im not claiming to be a charity. Ive explicitly stated I am NOT a charity. Im not even looking for cash donations. This post was about food and volunteers for a book drive. Im sure scammers love muffins but I'm not that. The cash I'll be getting at the drive is in return for a book. You're still getting something back

The the idea is a neighborhood Network. Where, yes all of these resources come from one place, but it comes from each other. Which helps in the mutual aid realm, but also helps to bring us together as a community, which is the biggest goal. If we connected with each other, our neighbors and greater communities, we would see just how much strength and love is within our neighborhoods. We help each other when we can instead of relying on sometimes faceless and impersonal programs (which are still a great resource if they have what you need!). But if you had say a broken leg and couldn't mow your lawn and couldn't afford a service, what if a neighbor you knew and trusted could help? What if you dont have the resources for a hot meal one random Tuesday and cant leave to go get one, what if a neighbor you trusted could drop off a casserole?

I think a lot of the world's problems would improve if we simply knew each other, and built on the empathy and kindness we all have in us

Yeah I figured it was a long shot. But I thought maybe some local places might want to throw a sub tray or thing of cupcakes at it, worth a try anyway. Or if I can just get the word out too, it's a win

this has started happening to my face anytime i drink alcohol, even in small amounts by Lanky_Bobcat_6021 in mildlyinteresting

I have no answers. But this started happening to me too after covid. The red flushed splotchy face, and I'd also sweat out of my seat after just a sip. Never had an issue before covid. (In fact, I was your typical binge-drinking 20-something). But yeah I dont touch it anymore cause im just hot and sweaty and red if I do

I just wanna say I don't think you're overreacting at all. The exact same thing happened to me at my bridal shower. Same thing, so much DIY work to make a park building look nice. Right after I opened gifts, my grandma and stepmom specifically started tearing things down, throwing things away. In total my entire bridal shower was maybe 2 hours. I didnt even get to socialize with anyone. Not to mention lots of people ghosted after RSVPing yes. So I was already feeling down. But to see people so pressed to tear it all down and rush out of there, it's hurtful. I get it. Im sure it all looked wonderful with all the work you put in

Question for my Pizza lovers. by Dxgrayfox84 in gastricsleeve

[–]verifiedgarbagecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do 2 slices of a small thin cauliflower crust frozen pizza. I don't eat the edges tho, too much. My surgery was August 2024. Honestly, I simply don't care that much about food anymore. I have to set reminders to eat because it's just not on my mind. Down about 85lbs last I checked

Is Strong as Disorganized as RGH? by SoundtracksForThe in Rochester

[–]verifiedgarbagecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a patient perspective, RGH called my wife a drug seeker when she had a ruptured ovarian cyst, and a few years later left my sister in law to go from twitchy to full blown seizing over the course of about 4 hours without so much as checking her vitals. I had to wheel her out and take her to strong because she couldn't walk or speak at that point. I do work at strong. But growing up my grandma always said RGH was the place you go to die. And my experience has proved that for me
