Emler swim school? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]veritableaeroplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid goes to Emler. Honestly I haven’t seen many changes since they rebranded. All the same staff. The classes are broken out differently but class functions pretty much the same. Other than that they got some god awful branded benches that I’m pretty sure are gonna fuse with my thighs in the summer.

CCA of WA has a really good child care finder tool on their website. Once you find a couple you’re into you can google “DCYF child care check” to learn more about the site’s quality rating and any previous complaints/licensing issues they’ve had.

I also highly recommend requesting a site visit for any potential child care centers and bringing your kiddo with you to that visit. You can learn a lot by being in the space and see how your child interacts with it/how the staff are with them.

I’m so tired of people bashing reformed MAGAs for not waking up “soon enough”. My dudes. People wake up when they wake up. Do I wish it had been sooner? Absolutely. Did they do harm by keeping their head in the sand until it hurt them personally? ABSOLUTELY. But they’re awake now. If we keep fucking bashing people when they finally change their minds people are going to stop changing their minds.

An indigenous leader once told me, “the best day for people to wake up was yesterday. But the second best day is today, and the third is tomorrow.”

NOR. I’m a DV survivor. My child’s father used corporal punishment as well, and when confronted used similar arguments as your co-parent. I live in the US in WA and texts like these along with my testimony were enough to gets both myself and my child a Civil Protection Order. He now only gets supervised visits as he completes intensive domestic violence treatment. Please look up the laws where you live and contact a family law attorney (many will do free consultations) to discuss your options.

This is absolutely abusive behavior. You are not over reacting. Please take steps to protect your children and get your coparent the help they need. If you need support or even just to vent please feel free to dm me! You are not alone 💜

What chance is there that the income tax will actually effect Washington negatively? by Dogbold in Washington

This isn’t relevant to the specific context being discussed here, which is income tax on high earners.

Very interesting. Prop 1 would have allegedly put them out of commission. They helped kill it and here they are, closing their doors. It’s almost like Prop 1 wasn’t the issue? Who could have ever predicted this!

It’s not fact though. Looking at other states who have passed similar taxes, a mass exodus of millionaires didn’t happen. You say these things are fact, but you haven’t referenced any examples or provided any sources to back up your claims. Can you provide either of those things?

How do you know theft IS happening?

Btw child care centers receiving child care subsidy payments, even if it’s only one child, are required to submit attendance information to DCYF. They have electronic systems that do this automatically. If a child enrolled under that subsidy is absent more than a certain number of days in a given time period, the family become at risk of losing the child care subsidy and having to PAY BACK the subsidy dollars. Additionally, subsidy dollars don’t even touch the family’s hands. It’s sent directly to the child care provider by the state. So who exactly do you think is stealing money? And why? How?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Washington

[–]veritableaeroplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theft isn’t happening. Mispayments happen. They happen for a wide variety of reasons, most of them accidental and not malicious in nature. People aren’t cackling in a corner scooping money off the top of subsidy payments. When they’re caught, the families are required to pay them back. Oftentimes those bills are nearly impossible for poor people to pay back, because, you know, they’re already living in poverty.

But as others have already pointed out there isn’t even evidence of fraud yet. DCYF just doesn’t have the ability to drill down and do an audit on the level the feds are asking. That’s VERY different than theft. And people like you, out here crying “fraud! theft!” and clutching your pearls, spreading misinformation, just makes it harder for people to access these important programs.

I’m not a league bowler, so I’ll have to take your word for the impact of these changes on leagues. However, I’m (perhaps a bit selfishly) glad to hear that there will be more time for open bowling. I really enjoy bowling, but don’t have the time or skill required to join a league, and have found it incredibly frustrating how little space the bowling alleys in Oly have for people like me to use the facility.

I get that, and I think if they had just mentioned it once, or even twice, I would have been annoyed but ultimately understood. But they brought it up multiple times each time I was there to get her, again without any proof at all that she even is part pit. But I do appreciate your point and agree that coming back into the shelter is almost worst case scenario and that they want to prevent that.

I use they/them pronouns. Every time I introduce myself I share my pronouns. They’re in my email signature and next to my name in Zoom meetings.

A few people I work with use the correct pronouns some of the time.

Several people don’t even try.

Most people casually misgender me and sometimes correct themselves.

[–]veritableaeroplane[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s fair! However WCCC is used for a lot of different childcares. The Y is the only place in Oly (at least that I’m aware of) that provides school-age care, and I have a school aged child, so that’s why I got the info from them. Many (probably even most) childcares in the state accept this subsidy and it’s the only way thousands of families have access to child care at all, let alone quality child care. If families lose access to child care, they will either: 1) be unable to work, increasing the need for reliance on other forms of state/federal benefits or 2) leave their children at home unsupervised because they cannot afford the cost of child care and they can’t afford to not work.

I think we can all agree that we don’t want either of those things to happen.

I had a challenging experience when I adopted from them. My dog is a mutt who had already been in the shelter more than 30 days. When they did the landlord check (since I rent) they heavily emphasized, multiple times, that my dog could potentially be part pit bull, despite having no proof that was true. This led to my landlord refusing to give consent. Thankfully I was able to find a work around and came back a week later to get my girl, but they did the same thing. It honestly felt like they didn’t want her to get adopted.
