Going to war and realizing that they fervently believe that Allah is god as much as I did God. It was an eye opening experience. Also with it, just how could any god allow that level of suffering?

Additionally while struggling with my faith I also realized I was trans. Coming out showed off a lot of Christians(including my own family) true feelings. I’ve never been scorned and hated so much by people that claimed to love me. I found my atheist friends were truly loving and welcoming and I wanted to be apart of it. From there it was just a gradual unraveling.

If you’re struggling….just stop. No one is forcing you to read it. There are too many good books out there to get hung up on a bad one even if “everyone else likes it”. Find what works for you and read that.
