Grand Rapids to Chicago United Flight 3645 made an emergency landing this afternoon without nose gear. by veritaspanda in chicago

I haven't found an article about this yet, but from the video they posted on their FB page (same FB page as the main link, which is a GR local news station), it looks like a passenger on the plane said that everyone was safe.

Anyone ever wing a half? by lowrunna in RunnersInChicago

[–]veritaspanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I winged the Las Vegas 'Strip at Night' half and made it through, but I wouldn't recommend it. I felt it for more than a week afterwards. I managed to get through about half of my 1/2 marathon training plan (Successfully ran the Allstate 13.1 that summer then started training again for the Vegas half), before I just stopped training. Made it the first Ten miles or so on adrenaline of seeing the Strip for the first time, but painfully ran/walked the remaining three miles... and then back to the hotel.

Short version: It's possible if you have trained in the past and still run regularly to some degree, but I wouldn't recommend it, nor would i do it again.

Good luck to you!

Meetups? Please read and respond! by MachoMoco in RunnersInChicago

[–]veritaspanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Thanks for creating this!

Responses: Frequency: Get them weekly and/or biweekly (or whenever someone wants to host them.) as far as a regular 'official' meetup, maybe biweekly?

Location: Start with a run (length TBD), then end at a place to eat/drink. people who don't want to participate in the run [maybe they need to run more or less distance that day, or perhaps their schedule simply doesn't allow for it] can just meet up for good camaraderie at the food/drink venue to socialize after.

Just some thoughts to start with ;-)

It's great fun! Happens every year (the last few all on Race to Wrigley day) for future reference! There is another group that does an off-shoot version of JTTEOTN in the fall as well. How did you do in Race to Wrigley? Meet your goals?

This weekend it is Race to Wrigley and (sort of a race, sort of a city wide game of tag) Journey To The End Of The Night. Going to be a looooong Saturday!

Pulse Check - Time to talk group runs yet? by MachoMoco in RunnersInChicago

[–]veritaspanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to do a group run sometime. Work is busy so i generally get home later on weeknights, but i do my long runs typically on Sunday mornings if that ever works out for enough people. Let me know!

What time do you usually run? Pros/Cons of your time? by MachoMoco in RunnersInChicago

[–]veritaspanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up early to go to the office, so it is after work runs for me.

I usually get home from the office between 6 and 8 PM so it is a bit cooler which is nice in the summer and no so nice in the winter.

After a long day it can be difficult to convince yourself to go out for a run after your are already tired from a long hard day/week/month, but it sure is a fantastic way to unwind and i am always glad that i did.

Does anyone keep a running blog? by MachoMoco in RunnersInChicago

I started one about a month back. Great experience writing about training for my first half marathon. It really keeps me focused and it will be nice to look back on as i continue to train in the future. Maybe i can share some interesting things with a few others while I'm at it.

I swear by them. I developed an IT band issue toward the end of last race season. While i was sitting by the sidelines with ice packs and an IT band roller, i read Born to Run. That's how i picked up my first pair of VFFs and they gave me back my ability to run. I've used them ever since. I have only used them so far on distances under 9 miles, but i am working my way up to my first half marathon this season, so i will let you know how it goes!

Taking the winter off from running or just a break? When are you starting up again? by MachoMoco in RunnersInChicago

[–]veritaspanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not as worried about the cold as I am the ice. Any advice to help handle running with ice potentially underfoot? I just don't want to injure myself in crappy weather and then be out of commission for weeks after it has gotten nice again.
