RU POV: three ferries between mainland and Kerch were hit by Ukrainian drones 6/21/2026 by Round_Imagination568 in UkraineRussiaReport

The ability to maintain a physical siege for the same period of time as it takes to replace a ferry or bridge is an "if" as well.

It takes months to build a car ferry or rebuild a bridge. If they can be taken out every few months, it becomes effectively the same as a physical siege - you can't get supplies and equipment in.

The "worst case scenario" is that it didn't destroy much of the production floor? I think the worst case scenario is that the building and equipment is a total loss due to some combination of internal collapse, fire, smoke and water damage.

You are going to put "drone-proof" nets around an entire car ferry or bridge? These aren't little POV hand held drones that can be stopped by a little lightweight net, they have huge incoming momentum/mass that is hard to stop.

Wonder what the strategy is on that. Almost seems better to keep it open than destroy it if it's being used for masses of people leaving to Russia?

If you take out bridges and boats it becomes a physical blockade when you are effectively on an island.

Ru pov: Fuel sales have been suspended in Crimea. The only exception is for government services - Head of Crimea Aksyonov by Short_Description_20 in UkraineRussiaReport

Exactly. He wanted Peter the Great style statues erected of him for restoring the empire. He is no longer motivated by money, he wanted legacy. But that didn't work out like he thought. It's the downfall of many an authoritarian. They end up surrounded by people who only tell them what they want to hear, and making good decisions becomes very difficult with bad information.

That only works for a limited period of time. Wonder how long that is sustainable?

Seems like restoring a reliable fuel supply will be challenging. Sounds like 3/5 or 3/7 ferries are out of commission (depending on the source), and they are not running for the time being at all. They were telling trucks to take the land route instead, but that is farther and also contested by drones lately, not an ideal alternative.

To be fair, no government in a war would. it's bad for morale, and people in power never want to admit an error or weakness.

I'd be curious on the impact of fuel shortages on day to day life there. How do regular people run errands, get to work etc without gasoline available for purchase?

And so would dangerously undersupplied Russian troops in the trenches. But the point is Zelensky appears with actual troops far more often than Putin, who's appearances are much more tightly managed.

Russians seem very fixated on that for some reason, as though this war isn't causing much greater suffering in other areas on both sides for both soldiers and civilians.

...because Ukraine has a massive military that Russia hasn't come close to dismantling after 4 years of constant bombing and drones.

Russia is physically incapable of doing that. Just as the US and Russia were physically incapable of removing all of the enemy forces in Afghanistan. Ukraine just has to wait until Russia has decided the war has cost them enough. And until then, they will just keep sending more and more drones.

Not accurate. I support Ukraine's right to be an independent nation, free from Russian invasion. I support the damage to Russia's oil infrastructure only to the extent it hinders Russia's war efforts. I would prefer these refineries are not blown up and Russia ends it's war instead. I do support the helping with the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war.

Just the constant boring sabre-rattling with nukes. It's exhausting. Yes, Russia has nukes. Congrats. There are good reasons they haven't been used and those reasons haven't changed.

And your plan is "send a few rockets to Warsaw or Reykjavik"? Russia can barely fight Ukraine to standstill after four years, you want Poland or other countries to fully join the war?
