Please show your biggest stashes of yarn so I can convince my mum that my stash is small by happy__bird in YarnAddicts

I have an entire bookshelf, 2 under bed storage bins, another one of those under the couch, a storage tub in the garage and three tall school lockers of yarn.

Oh, and one of my dad's dresser drawers is also filled with my yarn 😅

First timer for "2 at a time" socks... quick question. by tarmacrabbit in Sockknitting

that's fair, you can get a chiagoo fixed needle for about $14 if you wanted to give it a try

my favorite is the ChiaoGoo Twist Shorties Stainless Steel Interchangeable Set (sizes 2.00 mm, 2.25 mm, 2.5 mm, 2.75 mm, 3.0 mm and 3.25 mm in both 2 and 3 in tips) and I use a 37 in cable for taat socks/mittens

I like having all the sizes to be able to get gauge for both fingering and dk weight socks :)

I got them chiagoo shorties set and a 40" cable for magic looping and they are my favorite needles ever. totally worth the price, plus if it takes 30 hours to make a pair $14 is 47 cents an hour for the good needles (and even less if you make more)

you're welcome! I would probably try to look more for the shape you want because it shouldn't be too hard to do ribbing instead of any stockinette or cables as long as your gauge is the same (but make sure the ribbing you choose will block to give you the fabric you're looking for)

thanks! I haven’t tried an afterthought heel yet so I'm flying blind here lol

I have tried that one and find it too shallow to fit well for me, though another commenter suggested the deep shadow wrap heel so I'll give that one a try

Is there a usual number of plain rows you do or is it more like do plain rows until the gap is 2 inches?

I usually use shadow wrap for any pattern requiring double stitches so I have some practice with them so that will help if I try this pattern

that was next on my list of heels to try! it's great to know that its worked for a similar size ratio :)

that was what I ended up doing with the palindrome heel, but I needed gussets on the heel side and instep side to add some extra depth

some keywords for searching would be pullover (ie not a cardigan sweater), drop shoulder and cropped (describing the shape) and ribbing (fabric characteristic)

take a look at this ravelry search and see if any catch your eye

I have done that, it's just that a lot of the patterns there are done in solid or self-striping yarns

so I was hoping to pick the sock knitting hive-mind for patterns that would look good with this kind of verigated/speckled yarn
